Afcon 2008

So hows Bafanas chances?
I hope they make the semis!

Right now I know nothing about the teams or anything. Are they capable of taking the trophy this year?

Last time the Springboks to the WC, Bafana won the AFCON trophy... :p

Ladbrokes were offering 25:1 BB to win the competition last night. Site blocked here so I can't check latest odds

Worth a R500 I think, you get something also if they make the quarters, semis right?

I like the squad we have, nice mix of experiance and new blood. I believe if we play to our potential we should do well, but winning the cup is a bit of a long shot.

My pick would be either Ghana, or Senegal. Never count out Cameroon though.

The TV will be my best friend from the 20th, it's a pitty I don't have a lot of leave days left though.:(

Can't play alone. My problem is, he's tiny. African players like to be very physical, and the conditions might not suit him.

pienaar is class, the premier league is EXTREMLY physical and he does well there...

we have a pool of talent in SA we just need to tap into in,im interested to see how we do,our team is a mix of really young '2010' players and the older blokes..our defense has improved in leaps and bounds and we are starting to score goals

i believe we'l get through the group stages..after that im not sure, the afcon is very inconsistant,u never quite know whos going to win

as for us not having big players thats BS!
Benni(he's not in the team ATM)-2nd top scorer in english premier league
Aaron mokoena-decent DM
steven pienaar
Zuma the puma
godfrey sapula(hes older but class)
Teko modise-has a massive amount of potential
Elrio van heerden-another solid player
nassif morris-decend defender

i was suprised to see vilakazi was ommitted

im sick of people that dont watch football bringing down bafana
i hate rugby yet i supported us

we are in a tough group tho, tunisa are right buggers and senekal are unpredictable
angola qualfied for the last WC and drew with mexico!?!!

We play Angola tomorow!! I hope we play well and win!!!
If I remember correctly we never scored a single goal in the last AFCON!!?

I watched Ghana and Nigeria last night... rather boring... thought the 2 powerhouse sides will provide some entertainment early in the competition.

I watched Ghana and Nigeria last night... rather boring...

Yeah. I was actually disgusted the way both teams played. They were not playing with their hearts. Most of them didn't really have to prove anything coz they are already playing abroad.

From what I have seen so far I think all the teams have been average. Bafana should start believing in themselves and maybe they can go real far.
African teams have changed, they are passing the ball around a lot more instead of the run, run, run tactic that was adopted in the past. You can almost tell the European influence with short passes plus long balls to the front..Almost every team is coached by a European coach...plus for most countries the entire starting eleven play in Europe....The size advantage does diminish when such a style of play is being used therefore I say SA has nothing to fear with their dimunitve players... The focus is now more on the tactic rather than technical ability and physique...all of which should place us in good stead...

//Side note
What kind of grass are they using in those pitches...? The ball just does not roll like it should.
//The power failure should have the 2010 LOC working overtime to ensure such embarassment does not come to pass here during the WC

i dunno man i watch ivory coast play nigeria and i think they are basically home and dry

cannot see anyone but them winning

I watched Egypt wip Cameroon last night!!

I think this competition might be out of Bafanas league tbh....
Well maybe ill wait for tonight to judge.

yea dont worry jk8

i just have a funny feelings we are going to do well

its simple, lose to to angola tnite and we out

If we only score 1 goal the whole tourny it would be a massive improvement over last time... I suspect we could beat Angola, draw tunisia and get whipped by Senegal. Maybe if we lucky we could get through... but not any further than the 1st knockout stages

I also watched the second half of Cameroon vs Egypt. The Egyptians were so disciplined. If they play like that, I predict Egypt vs Ivory Coast final

SA will win :)

Have faith boys :)

*I dont like soccer (or should I say, SA soccer) so if we loose, I wont really care - but still*
