Afcon 2008

Missed the start but watched 80% of the game.

Why do we pass the ball behind the receiver? As in rugby this stops the whole attack and gives the defence a chance to orginise themselves.

It destroyed our attack and as such our chances in my novice opinion.

well we never had a chance coming into this comp and i think we all knew that

anyways no big deal, a country cannot be great at all sports

we got swimming cricket rubgy golf not to bad
 
You can't write BB off on account of one match that was riddled with defensive errors. I see a bright future for this team, the fact that they are fighting for each other on the field instead of against each other like they used to do. Pienaar has shown his determination to play after he has been accused of slacking.
We must understand that it takes time to build a winning team. First you make mistakes, and you learn and try to improve on those.
We are still building confidence within the team. You can see by the nervous start to the game that this team still needs a few more games to believe they can win.
We are probably the best ball players at the tournament (even the commentator said that after the Angola game). We need to strengthen our defense tactically. We don't have pace (Nassief was shown a clean pair of heels by a Tunisian striker) and therefore need to defend in a more compact unit and a little bit deeper or even play two defensive midfielders...like when we won the AFCON in '96, we had Eric Tinkler and Linda Buthelezi in middle of the park shielding the defense.

So far I've been impressed with Rui Marquess of ANGOLA in middle of defense. We need to find a player like that to anchor the central defense for Bafana. That player won every ball against Senegal and that makes a big difference

Very Positive I see...
But I think I must have been watching another BB team...
They have to beat Senegal even if they play bad, a good performance from the team is nothing IMO without a win.

I like to think positively (in general) but I dont think we gonna do well against Senegal and we gonna get whipped again....

We are gonna get whipped that's for sure but we must show improvement on the past game's perfomance. Remember this is a learning curve for most of the players and therefore we shouldn't be pre-occupied with getting results now...building a team takes time and we are still at the foundation phase at the moment...we are lucky to be playing at this tournament at all as we qualified through the back door...

Thats grabbing on straws there Mr Bageloo.
This coach has had more than a year to get these guys up.
It does take time, but how long? after this competition will they be ready for 2010? They better be.

If Parreara keeps the same core of players through out we will be ready by 2010 and beyond.
Remember we have Confederation's Cup 2009 and another AFCON before 2010 WC ( if we qualified ). We will also play lots of friendlies in between plus qualifiers for 2010. These tournaments will build character and cohesion in the team that is very young in terms of international football.

With the exception of ZUMA, MOKOENA, MORRIS and PIENAAR, the rest of the squad are playing in only their first international tourny. Compare that to the IVORY COAST, GHANA. Egypt etc.
AS an example, I want us to rewind to 10 years ago and try to recall where IVORY COAST and GHANA were. Look how long it has taken them to get where they are. Building a team does not take a few months it's a very long process that requires a lot of patience.
