Right off the bat, Marine Le Pen was banned because she was found guilty, by a court, of embezzlement. I would think most countries would have laws preventing felons from running for office. Only in Trump world does politics understate crimes.

Regarding the Dutch banning political parties, in my post around Germany, I mentioned that in Europe political bannings can be appealed to the European Court of Human Rights. If AfD or any other European party is banned and they believe it was for political motives, they have this recourse available to them.
They would rather play to the court of public opinion where they get to present a 1-sided view and play the victim / underdog so they can gain more support.

I find it interesting that right leaning parties are suddenly all excluded from elections, or simply denied their win by courts.
In the case of Le Pen, this is the first time a candidate was excluded from running for this type of conviction, and the ban is in place, even if she is allowed to appeal, which means that if the appeal is successful, she could have lost 2+ years. Her not being able to run is however not a big issue, as her 2nd in command is also very popular.
I don't accept court rulings at face value, not in SA, and not the EU.

This is not new, the court case where the AfD was flagged as confirmed suspected extremism and therefore could be monitored finished almost a year ago, it's been in the works for some time:

There was, leading up till the 80s, but most of the left-wing extremists fell away after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
