Affirmative Action

I still disagree. The implentation of AA is correcting a wrong. It is only fair that people be given a right to basic education, decent jobs and a right to choose whatever job they like and can do.. It's time for us to move forward now and re-build our country as one, instead of blaming and blaming. Throwing the race card is so last Thursday

You cannot correct a wrong with another wrong. It simply doesn't work that way. Discrimination in ANY form is unacceptable. AA discriminates against a certain grouping of people therefor it is a wrong. What is needed is fair employment on merit, education and skill. The only thing you achieve with AA at this point in time is placing a person in a position they are not trained and ready for and it's impacting EVERYTHING being done in the country negatively. Numerous companies have non-white figureheads/tokens with white people doing the work they are trained and qualified to do with the supervisor just sitting there as window dressing. Is this the world you want? Really?

How can you call it fair when a larger number of people because of their skin colour were able to get education and have jobs? What's fair is that basic education is provided to everyone, training in the workplace should be for everybody, affording people a chance to improve their skills and therefore be equipped for the positions offered. Numerous companies I know of have non-white supervisors, managers, executives who are trained and skilled for the job that they do, they do not window-dress. and if such people were not given the necessary opportunities presented by AA, their skills and contribution to the companies and this country would have gone under. That is a world I want. Really

well said!!

If AA is implemented correctly 15 years ago, there would been no need for it now

Basic education was guaranteed when the apartheid curtain fell. It has absolutely 0 to do with AA. AA has been more destructive than good - look at the state of Telkom for one. I did not say that all non-whites are incapable of doing their jobs I am saying many companies are using incapable people simply because they cannot find the right skilled ones (which are scarce), they then give them senior positions try to train them all the while the company is running on the backs of people that do have the skill and training but are denied the position because of the colour of their skin. Sorry to say it but your "improved" society of today is every bit as bad as the old Natz and in some regards worse 1. the Natz at least admitted what they were doing 2. They didn't have the knowledge of the past to see the damage it would inflict.

The ANC are hiding behind upliftment when they are doing the same as the Natz (Cowardice for not at least admitting what they are doing and hypocrisy for claiming it to be something it is not) and they have first hand experience of what discrimination does yet they still do it. It's revenge time and the ANC are having at it

So Humanoid ninja deleted before I could comment on his tame attempt to school me on the meaning of conservative... Oh well.

Bantu education is not basic education. I had to get a decent education in a neighbouring country, where I have to say i went to a multi-racial school. I grew up in a multi-racial and multi-national soceity (that's why I say for me racism is so last Thursday). The basic education I obtained from there allowed me to further myself and be where I am today, and where I am heading too. Millions of people at that time only got bantu education, which as you are well aware cannot take one far. Basic education is the right to be able to read, write, understand and improve yourself in society. Mind you, not all of us belong to the ANC, or get jobs because we are linked to the ANC or because of the colour of our skin. We are equipped and skilled for the positions. And its only fair, right and just that we are given the opportunity to put our hard-earned skills and years of studying into practice and make our contribution to this country.

Some of us do not belong to the ANC, if they are benefiting from the revenge, that's their cup of cake. As I said,we are educated, skilled and able to do the job, we need to be afforded the opportunity, and that is where AA is meant to come in. Thank God the new generation is smarter, wiser and colour-blind. It's the old grumpy racist fellows who need to step aside and stop bringing this country down.

If you are educated, skilled and able you do not need to hide behind AA - you should be able to stand tall and proud on your own to feet and do the work.

Amen - "Thank God the new generation is smarter, wiser and colour-blind. It's the old grumpy racist fellows who need to step aside and stop bringing this country down." This goes for both white and black.

To be honest Bantu education is before my time. Since 1994 basic education has been policy for South Africa (just fyi I went to school before this but as stated below not introduced to the realism of the Natz until high school)

I do not know what was taught in those classes and what not. I went to a small farming community school with the farm children (black, coloured and white) My first introduction to our nasty history was in high school (that's why I also left RSA for a school in a neighbouring country)

The AA has afforded me a rightful chance to do my job and prove myself. You know what's funny though, is that people generally have no idea how hard a woman of colour has to constantly prove herself in a workplace full of "old generation folk" - black or white. In case you didn't know, there is something known as "black-on-black" racsim. Been there, got the T-shirt. So it aint just about black and white. As Micheal Jackson said, "it don't matter if you're black or white". So true. FYI - I only date white guys! :-)

I think our best option is to take the ET's and JM's and dump them on an island somewhere and let them sort themselves out - we clean up the constitution and get everything in order - they are too stuck in the old days to contribute to a functioning society of the future

P.S. The Manyi's included

Bantu education was before my time too. But my grandparents experienced it. My father experienced it too, that's why we migrated. It doesn't have a direct impact on me, but I do know that if my father hadn't made that smart move, I wouldn't be able to read and write properly - like millions of black kids out there. I went to a school where it didn't matter what colour skin you were.

Isn't it amazing how similar we are, and yet we are too stupid to realize it.

i so agree! They are pulling this country apart! Don't forget Steve Hofmeyer on the list!

That's the point I was trying to make :) just in a very obscure way :p

Cool. We should start our own political party...call it New Generation Kids...or New Kids on the Block (just like the 90's band) lol

If you make me wear my hair like that with a checkered tie I am going to throw a tantrum :p

But a new political party (not one of these fly by night parties) a proper party that has NO ties to the past whatsoever might just be able to pull it off.
