Afrihost 10MB Uncapped Accounts

I prob avg 160gb per month mweb, afrihost first uncapped attempt throttled you to death at round 30gb if my memory serves correct. And they lied about knowing anything about it. I have no problem with the way they choose to run their company or what aup policy they use. But when i asked them if they were behind the slow downs they lied. A couple of days later they addmittted to trials. aka throttling to death. So i will stick to mweb for now im sure they will respond soon enough to this offer.

When we first got into the uncapped market, we really didn't put our best foot forward, and I think we didn't offer the best possible product. I also think you'e right that some of our support consultants didn't really understand the product.

Really sorry that your experience was poor, and we're really confident that we've learned from these mistakes. But your feedback is really valuable, because we don't want to repeat those mistakes.

Hi Afriman

So you state that you want to make them better. First we need to know what is your FUP a day / month. Throttling etc...

So in a day if you move 35GB up and down is this OK or do you get throttled ? or at what point do you get throttled?

So then 35GB x 30 Days = +-1TB - This is just a rough idea.

There are so many accounts out there that are S*** because as soon as you do like 60GB you get a mail from the ISP or they kill your speed etc...

So what makes this 10MB Uncapped from you guys better then the rest, besides the all in one deal which is AWESEOME :)

Thanks
BB

I've posted this in a few thread, no ISP will commit to a specific target, as this open the system up to abuse. A guideline you could use is about 450GB+ in a 30 day rolling period. That is without being throttled. If you are ok with being throttled (never below 2Mbps), you can move a little more than double that.

Will the throttling apply to all protocols?

We don't actively throttle any protocols. We de-prioritize traffic that is not considered "normal",i.e. (HTTP, FTP, SMTP). This is basically shaping. This prioritization formula is consistently applied through day and night, so during off-peak hours, it willbe more in favour of other protocals, such as torrents and NNTP.

Hey Afriman!
This is a fantastic offer on the 10meg uncapped.
I am only concerned with bundling my line to an ISP because of the issues afterwards. If I do decide to cancel, will it be easy transferring the line back to Telkom or do I need to reapply. It was a headache and a half trying to get a ADSL line from Telkom in the first place.

If you decided to cancel your line with us, we simply move it back to Telkom for, we do not cancel the line, and your service is not interrupted. It's a process, but not as painful as one might think. You don't need to re-apply for any services with Telkom.

Hope that answers your question :)

Hi Afriman

So does the Throttling of the line speed only happen for the day / week / month if you hit a high limit per day / week / month.

If I apply for 10mb uncapped data towards the end of the month, how does the billing work? Is it pro-rated? If so, could you tell me how much I would pay if I start on the 18th of this month and want to just go on until the last day of the month.

We will bill you pro-rata for the remainder of the month, and then for the new month in advance on the first. If you use the link below, you'll get 50% off the pro-rata and first month's invoice (not for bundle though).

Thanks for the speedy response Afriman...so if I start half way through the month using that link I would be able to not only get a pro-rata rate but 50% off that pro-rata rate? If I dont want to go on for the next month then when should I cancel in order to avoid getting billed for another month?

Pretty much! As long as you cancel before the 25th, you won't have to pay for an additional month.

Just shout if you have any hassles.

Hi Afriman :)

If I'm moving my line from another ISP, is it going to be a stressful process?? And at that can I start in August for example and have the 1st debit order go off end of July?

You first need to get your current ISP to move the line back to Telkom, you can then sign it up with us and we'll take it from there. It can take some time, but we make sure your line stays up and you don't get double billed.

When you sign up a data account, it is active immediately and we start billing pro-rata until month end. So best to just sign up a day or so before you current ISP account expires.
