Afrihost 4096 uncapped offering user experiences

Been there, done that got annoyed by all the issues MWEB had, with afrihost I have been getting nothing less than 130kb/s avg on torrents, you tube speeds amazing, no HTTP issues what so ever...Have not tested news servers yet. (After moving to the "pits")

NO DOWNTIME, NO "PM ME YOUR DETAILS"...bla bla bla
:D:D:D

+1 Dude = the same.

Afrihost Uncapped totally sucks - stay away. I have a 4mbps uncapped with them. Today, I logged in with this account, for the first time this month, and I get about 500kbps max. Switched to my WA capped account and I get 3500kbps. WTF.

Why am I getting shaped when I haven't used the account at all so far this month ?

I already cancelled this account with effect from 31 December. What a waste of money.

AXXESS is the worst offering out there. I'm back with Mweb uncapped and feel kinda shaped some of the time howerver not as restrictive as with AXXESS.

Yup, connection drops all the time. Slow as hell the rest of the time. And I keep getting stupid abuse reports about things I've never downloaded, I'm not even going to bother responding to them now they can just cancel it if they want to.

In the mean time signing up with MWeb but wtf at their signup process. Why do they require three times more documentation than everyone else, and they only accept debit orders?

I am also on the Afrihost Uncapped account and no it doesn't suck. Are you sure you aren't getting 500KB/s cause that is the capacity of a 4meg line. As I said I have the same account with them and although I am lucky enough to have a 10meg line I can still only get 500KB/s as that is the maximum of the account I signed up for.

I am more than happy with their service and their speed. Just for the record last three days I have done 43gig so their speeds really aren't that bad.

i have afrihost 4mbs uncapped and my download speed is 30KBs

No, I did mean 'bits'. The speed did pick up a little after that post of mine, but currently I am throttled to 384kbits/s - I'm at 58GB.

How long have you had AH Uncapped and how much do you download a month ?

I was with afrihost capped for over a year and was very happy with them. the moment i moved to their uncapped account i was shocked at how i was treated at the company. within the first week i had downloaded less than 30gb and i was throttled to such an extent that loading gmail took 2 minutes on my 4mbps line! I complained to them and they said i had reached their concept of "threshold" based on all users. I decided that i'd take their "double money back guarantee" and then return to their capped version. They said "fine fill out this form and we will refund you". I havent checked if i have been refunded yet but the moment i put in the application i couldnt get access to the internet. After speaking to someone in support they said that since i requested the money back they have blocked my phone number and cannot use Afrihost anymore. Can you believe the nerve of these clowns? I wrote to their CEO, Gian who advertises his email address everywhere and tells you to write to him if you have any problem. Havent still heard back from him since(2 months ago).

I've now moved to mweb's uncapped service which does not impose the stupid throttling policies of afrihost. Their uncapped is slower than afrihost's uncapped but i'm better off here especially if you download via http instead of torrents directly.

Since Afrihost moved me directly onto the IS backbone for being a heavy user I've never been happier, in the last five months, using my 4meg uncapped account I've managed 1.1TB (1100GB) of usage on my line.
Last month my total was 387GB and this month it's standing on 290GB. So I can happily say theres no problems on my side.

So is it too late for me to change my mind about Afrihost :)

I got home yesterday afternoon and on my 4meg uncapped account I was getting speeds of about 30kbps. I immediately thought I was being shaped but having only downloaded 40gig the month I felt it was ridiculous. I mailed their 24 hour support line and got the reply that my account was moved to IS and was given new details to login with. The speeds improved but I was still only getting about 200KB/s. After a number of mails back and forth with them being certain that the account is not "being managed" and saying that apparently all uncapped accounts are being moved to IS. I sent them screenshots of the download speeds I was getting and finally got a consultant who actually cared.

He asked me to test using his personal account and then suddenly I was getting speeds of around a 1mpbs. I sent him the screenshot and he promised to take it up with IS and let me know what they say. Suddenly after that the speeds restored to what I was getting previously. The funny thing is that I asked them why I wasn't notified about the move and all they say is sorry they don't know why. I can't understand why we as the customers have to provide them with our email addresses, telephone numbers, copy of ID and what not, but they can't send a single email telling me something as simple as they are moving my account.

So in short no I am no longer happy with Afrihost and will definitely move my account somewhere else at the beginning of the month. Looking at M-Web maybe now that they also have SAT-3 connections along with the Seacom links so that is starting to look like an option. Never been a fan of Mweb though.

Welcome to 4Mbps uncapped...

Also going to MWeb... screw this.

during the day my uncapped is sluggish, but after hours, its like 440k all the way :) manage a good 400- 500 gigs :)

And here I am getting slow speed as soon as I hit 40gigs ffs how did you do 400-500 Gigs?

Also going to MWeb... screw this.

I signed up for the M-Web uncapped last night after again not being able to get speeds of more than 150Kb/s with Afrihost.

The funny thing is I finished the sign up get my username and password and suddenly my line goes daed just as I entered the new details on my router :( Luckily though it was back on again this morning I did not want to try and deal with Telkom on 23 December. So yeah the same downloads that where queued with Afrihost and giving me 150KB/s where downloading at more than 600KB/s.

Same line, same router, same PC just a different account, and afrihost insists they were not throttling me after I did a total of 40 gig for the month.

Well I've been changed to some other type of account now after throwing my toys. They told me I was "being managed" for "high use" "against the AUP" - I told them to fly a kite and stop making their problems mine.

Yes, my whole 57GB over the entire month is supposedly "high use". What a joke.

Sorry, I need to vent.

Afrihost 4mbps Uncapped = biggest rip-off ever !!! Grrrrrr :mad::mad::mad:
@Gian: How can you call this 'uncapped' when hardly anybody can download more than 40GB a month ? F--- man ..|.. I've always supported your capped offers, which is good, but this sucks donkey balls.

Anyway, my account is already Cancellation Pending. I'm not wasting another cent on this crap. I really feel violated.

Also doing fine on this account, sitting on 307GB for the month so I can’t see why everyone else is struggling to barely pull a mere 40GB, I will agree that the account is slow during the day but past 5pm it fly’s and that about the only time I start using the account till 6 in the morning.

384Kb line, 29GB later and throttled to death.

If you're still happy with afrihost uncapped, just give them a little bit more time, they'll get to screwing you shortly.

I'm moving on to greener pastures, OpenWeb Gold here I come. And that's the way I will hop my way through all the many flavors of ISP's once they start ripping me off.

Uncapped internet is being treated as the unwanted child that ISP's had to adopt, but they're hell bent on making it feel as uncomfortable and unwanted as possible.

Let's see for how long OpenWeb Gold will treat it's CLIENTS - not parasites as certain ISP's treat uncapped users -with the service they're paying for.

Let's hope they don't disappoint once there numbers start to explode.

MrBeep, I'm routing for you boys.
