I insisted that there was something wrong with my account. The support guys denied it and blamed everything from my line to my router. Eventually I spoke to a guy and asked him outright if my account was being throttled. He said yes!
I have only used 18GB for the month of February. Afrihost apparently have 5 levels of throttling (with 5 being the most severe) and they throttled me down to lvl 4 or 5, for some reason. They couldn't tell me why and simply said that the system is automated.
I would warn anybody to think twice before considering to even join Afrihost. They are throttling, just like MWEB on their cheaper ADSL uncapped accounts. So beware, for here be dragons!
This is why I believe that uncapped accounts are not a solution. Rather buy a data bundle and then you know you're going to get full speed for the entire amount. I use about 60GB per month, which costs about R900.

“In fact recently Seacom went down for a day and all international traffic was automatically rerouted over our other international routes and nobody even noticed,”
I've been with Afrihost for some time now. The move to MTN was a nightmare, to say the least. I haven't had one week without issues. I've logged more calls than I care to mention.
I specifically started to notice that International speedtests were ridiculously pathetic nearing the end of the month. In this week I noticed that an International speedtest showed a whopping 600k download speed on my 2mbps line. (I have a 2mbps uncapped account with Afrihost.)

So thanks to Afrihost for the offer, but I have had enough and cancelled my account with Afrihost this week. I would rather pay another ISP for a service that works, than get some "gift" from Afrihost with a service that is terrible.
Sorry Afrihost, but throttling is unacceptable! They recently posted an article of the big downloaders in December. How the hell did those guys nearly download 1TB, yet after 18GB I am severely throttled?

I wonder what percentage of customers got this discount?
