Afrihost ADSL network: problems solved

that's good but what specials will they offer us to lure us back :D

comfortable with the new isp so not sure i want to change back just yet

The "specials" seems to be Afrihost plus+. Too bad but without their double data promotion, I am just not that interested. Cost of living is sky high and they are looking at milking us more.

Doing windows updates and some other normal software installation like VLC, Adobe, Firefox..... the Afrihost Business connection was annoyingly slow tonight. And that was around 22:30.

So I just switched over to the WebAfrica one.... and suddenly there was more speed.
Same exchange. Both 4 meg lines.

:confused::confused:

Well that's great news. Now, if only the mobile data could be more consistent...

+100 mobile data is a pain in the buttocks
could not use it the entire day yesterday and I use it for work to retrieve my emails

Why do you continue bitching about slow speeds, and not do something about it ?

If you are unhappy with a service, the best way to show your intentions, is to move. Its simple. You can come here and complain for months (which everybody has done), and you still don't change ISP's.

“Insanity is doing the same thing, over and over again, but expecting different results.”

I know its cheaper, but you get what you pay for. So if you obviously believe internet is important, pay the extra small amount of money and move to an ISP that works. Thats why there are no long term contracts. There is a reason. You move where is best, whenever you need. Its not a difficult thing to do.

Work out what your time is worth per hour. Work out how many emails you need to send to support, hanging on forums, investigating issues. Nobody has time for that. Your time is more valuable.

Vote with your feet, change ISP's and whoever can give the best service at reasonable price you make use of.

If you want the cheapest, stick with the cheapest. Get the service you pay for. Endless drama, hassles and slow speed.

I don't know why this is so difficult.

Um No..

Other ISPs seem to be fine.

I have a 40Mbps line and youtube buffers all the time.

I switch to webafrica account no issues max speed and no buffering.

This is just more afrihost PR rubbish.

Um pull your head out your arse...

Telkom have been having major network issues in the wake of the eskom rolling blackouts, and I am talking about physical infrastructure failures, not ISP issues.

This definitely costed AH big time. And some are still having issues

Um No..

Sorry to break this to you, but having been through a few of the other ISPs ... this was a speedbump.

Sorry guy but there was no load shedding for the past 2 days, so not sure what you and abandonallhope are on about. Switching to Web Africa I get full line speed. On Telkom the same thing. When I'm on Afrihost, I get MAX 234kb/s (as if they're trying to limit me to a 2mb line that has 4mb capacity). The speed test was done with NO downloads at all through MyBB.

So please explain why 2 ISP's have 0 problems giving me the speed I subscribe for, but this 1 (Afrihost) who claims all problems are fixed now, can't.

I think you need to look in the mirror. Please detail the load shedding that happened in the past 48 hours that impacted the networks? I can show you that there were none. Fact vs Fiction.

If it were true, I would have the exact same experience on all ISP's, since it's Telkom's network that was impacted, not the ISP's, correct?

fanboi much?

Great post. I totally agree. If the people keep on complaining without moving, they are dead to me.

Ohhhh, now you guys have finally started to fix the issue that has been around for so long.

Too little. Too late. I already cancelled my 2 accounts. I've lost faith in you guys. I've vowed not to do business with you guys ever again.

I think you're generalising the feedback quite a bit. It wasn't pushed aside at all, tests had been requested and investigating on a case by case basis.

Once we had built the trend we were able to take things further. I also need to remind you that during this time we had additional capacity implemented which helped ease the demand on the network.
Yes, AH always tried to individualise issues when clearly an entire group were experiencing the same problem. A type of divide and rule approach to try and deflect.

This meant that ADSL traffic – especially torrenting and peer-to-peer downloading – was not being classified properly.

So one can expect these protocols to be shaped into oblivion, now that it can be 'classified' correctly. The only problem is that it was already shaped to 1/40 line speed when I left them.

If you read the post you quoted real close you might notice that TEXTILE GUY didn't mention load shedding there, but I did.

So you reckon that Telkom equipment breaks during load shedding, and then when the load shedding stops, it magically also starts working again the same instant ? No need to wait for replacement equipment no nothing, it just snaps back to a working condition ?

So sure, other ISP's tested perfectly, but first of all I just don't believe you tested it properly, and secondly different ISP's use different upstream providers, vendors, equipment, etc. Who knows what bizarre circumstances might prevail because of such widespread blackouts.

To conclude, I trust you have picked up the phone and gotten a hold of Afrihost tech support to find out why your problems persist even after claiming they have fixed it ?
