Afrihost ADSL network: problems solved

that's good but what specials will they offer us to lure us back :D

comfortable with the new isp so not sure i want to change back just yet

lol. Still amazeballs how for weeks they denied an issue and then all of a sudden they had to fly the planet in.

With them owning Axxess do Axxess have the same issues or are they run independently?

They are our sister company and use the same IPC infrastructure, however their shaping and packages are run by them.

Don't think we ever denied having any issues, we've been as transparent as absolutely possible :)

Their ADSL status report on website was orange for as long as I can remember? In fact almost since I bought their mobile product I recall seeing an orange light there.

This meant that ADSL traffic – especially torrenting and peer-to-peer downloading – was not being classified properly.
Aah, no wonder I could download torrents faster than browsing normally. Thing is that was last night still and after a router reboot.

Also: Afripeople and Gian, stop with the "overseas company"-thing. It sounds like you are speaking foreign. Is saying they are from abroad supposed to impress us Africans? I assume there are no South African manufacturers of networking equipment. Anyone applying their mind should conclude that the equipment experts should come from Foreignia. //ends mini-rant

The issues have been ongoing for some time, and we've been working uber hard in having them all addressed and sorted out :)

We do smaak the foreign stuff though ;)
While big aspects of the IPC are managed locally, the not local company that creates the systems spotted the error.

Thanks for sticking with us though, it really is appreciated! I'm confident we can put this all behind us really soon.

Exactly :) so where is this denial everyone else is referring to? It was stated/colour coded on your home page! :p Maybe I am missing something...

It is all good and well that Afrihost declare that their network is working 100% again, but I have a hard time believing them.

They have been consistently lying to their clients and the public for a good few months now. They have been telling anyone with issues with Afrihost that its your phone line/exchange issue. They constantly denied that it was infrastructure that the problem. Then all of sudden, it is their infrastructure that has been causing the majority of the problems.

How is anyone going to believe anything Afrihost say anymore? They have lost a lot of credibility with me. They might say they are transparent, but the months of lies and denials has destroyed that.

They are going to have a hard time luring their customers back. The damage has been done.

Relying on a manufacturer to find and fix the fault presents it's own unique challenge. Timezones, vendor's customer priorities, lack of control over said problem etc...
That it actually got to the point of flying them out here shows/justifies the extent of the problem I guess?

//ends mini-retort :p

So how long until the next issue?

Sorry AH but your network has sucked since the day you switched to MTN from IS, you will never see a cent from me or anyone I know again, ever.

Why would they lie? More reasonable to assume at the time they weren't sure where the problem was and indeed could only point to the exchange?

Very often in the IT industry you don't know where the problem lies until you fix it. Trial and error is how it goes. So I can relate :)

Perhaps a root cause of the frustration was their inability to escalate the problem and investigate properly thus leaving customers with unsatisfactory answers. I'd offer this as a constructive feedback?

I don't think we've lied to anyone, we've been quite clear and open about what's going on. Our noticeboard (as one platform) testifies to that.
I know it hasn't been the best experience, we all know that - but I can safely say that we've addressed it and can soon put it all behind us.
