Afrihost ADSL woes continue

Almost a solid month of cr@ppy service, unstable/erratic and slow speeds across the board, last night max download on a 2mb uncapped connection was at 7k! :erm:

Your uncapped subscribers should get a bloody discount on the next month's service, I've kept the faith over this changeover much to my own detriment it would seem! I am certainly not getting what i'm paying for! Meh!

Did Afrihost's or MTN's router in London fail?

Don't understand why Afrihost did not wait for MTN to acquire a Cape Town IPC link and redundant international capacity before moving over all their clients from IS.

Fools rush in where angels fear to tread...

Seems like Afrihost has been suffering because of it. Take the time to do it right instead of rushing forward and then having to sit and apologise again and again afterwards.

Its MTNNS, not MTN guys. And yes, MTNNS is always having problems with London - when London goes down, MTNNS goes down. My previous employer hosts servers with MTNNS and I always dreaded the "London Down" emails when I was on support.

We use MTN Business and that Network Notice" that cbrunsdonza is talking about happens almost weekly. All you see is STM 4 links to london tealacity are down and the carrier is attending.

We are moving away from them when our contract expires.

So Afrihost good luck this has happend for the last 4 years with them what is going to change now?

and today im no longer using africrap :) whoop whoop

Afrihost doesn't own its own network so is still a 3rd tier ISP. Moving to a new unproven backbone network is risky despite being able to now implement their own QoS rules.

The article could have mentioned that Sunday the majority of the day they had an authentication problem so I couldn't authenticate as well as the out-of-the-norm and ambiguous throttling they implemented the past month. Add all the problems together then the MTN business relationship although being plugged by AFrihost management is not beneficial for the adsl consumer.

If Afrihost is so confident in MTN why did they not also move their hosting over from IS? Probably too risky since website require 24 hour uptime.

lot of unhappy Afrihost users now....compared to the time when a lot of people on the forum were raving about afrihost (when they were with IS).
What was the reason they changed from IS to MTN?

People I found a wonderful pollution. Just go with "wait for it" "Wait for it" MWEB. I download like over 100GB a month and they don't throttle me or anything. Ping is always great and I play BF3, Black ops 2 and even planetside 2 online with no issues.

Payne added that they recently launched a brand new version of their ClientZone, which gave a few problems after the launch. “These problems have been ironed out and it is now up and running,” said Payne.

While everyone's complaining, I'd like to state mine - can they remove that ''New ClientZone Beta'' popup they added recently - I've already seen it about 5 times; or, if they can add a button which states, ''Don't show this again!''

There was a time when I was really happy with Afrihost. That was before they moved over to MTN. After the move, I noticed a slight delay (latency) when using the internet. I used to have multiple data accounts, and Afrihost seemed to be the faster and best response when using the internet. This has now changed. I'm now on the verge of cancelling as I am getting a better experience from another short term provider. Don't know if this would have been possible, but Afrihost should not have moved over totally to MTN. They should have first done a pilot with a few users (for free) and then made a decision. The move might have made financial sense, but at what cost?

Such a pitty. I was a Afrihost customer for 3 years but could not take it anymore. I have moved to OpenWeb Gamers Uncapped and wowowow what a difference. Migrating all my friends there as well.

What was the reason they changed from IS to MTN?
Apart from value added services, large user base, customer interaction and support there was not much to distinguish them from the average I.S. ISP. I guess they wanted more control regarding negotiating agreements with the network and QoS control.

Forum members forget that a similar thing happened to webafrica. They rapidly grew in size, was rated the #1 ISP on the forum two years in a row and then moved to their own acquired network but only introduced uncapped late in the game.
A similar thing has happened to Afrihost but a big difference is that Afrihost has teamed up with an unproven ADSL network so unlike Web Africa are much more at risk as they don't own their network.
Assurances made by MTN Business about 99.8% service levels is hot air. They still have to much to learn as they have very little experience with ADSL.
