Afrihost and international speed issues

Hush, use speedtest.net and test a number of different international servers because giving us a single test from a single server isn't sufficient enough proof of things working fine. As Afrihost have told me, test over a few days and then report back.

I've done that too. Tested to Manchester, Liverpool, York, New York, Los Angeles etc etc and funnily I seem to get faster and more consistent speeds to US destinations.

If it would help I could do such tests over the next week starting Monday and document the results in this thread.

I've been dealing with this issue since the beginning of May. If it's taken you 6 months to recognise that there's a problem, how long is it going to take to fix it?

Today has been a stellar day of slow speeds. Currently getting a top speed of 35Kb/s downstream streaming Youtube.

FYI: I'm in Cape Town.

Today has indeed been a day of very, very slow speeds even compared to the usual Afrihost standard.

It hasn't quite been 4 months, and we do have some options in the pipelines that our Management team are considering :)

So what's the update on these 'options' you have in the pipelines because I'm experiencing another day with speeds at 0.24mbps - 0.4mbps on a 2Mbps line.

Man I'm still having issues...

There seems to be jitter on the line, but I checked with Telekom and there is no issues on the line. I even checked with my 1gb free account.

When I run a speed test to the mtn network I get 22ms and through mweb 8ms, does indicate that there is a potential issue on the network?

I'm even tempted to buy a mweb account just to test.

Im convinced more then ever that something is happening on the afrihost network. I ran the same tests this morning and they were better, speedtest response time was 16ms instead of 22ms and the jitter was down from 10ms to 1ms.

Is this just a case of to much load?

We definitely shouldn't be seeing latency here, sorry about this guys :(
Could I please take a look at some tests? Traceroutes, speedtests etc. Everything goes!

Update wise, we're waiting for IPC upgrades to come through which should improve everyones overall experience with us. I don't have an ETA on this just yet - so lets look at some test results in the mean time.

Until we can up our capacity - it's likely that there could be a number of symptomatic issues like these - and I think it's really hard to know if they are related or unrelated.

My own tests on international speeds are pretty decent, but you could be testing at a point when latency on the IPC peaks, which will affect local and international speeds. It's really difficult to say and I would definitely say that we should keep track of this and keep testing. If the issue is consistent - then we might be able to improve this with some tweaking. If its intermittent, then I would guess that our best bet is to wait for the new capacity to land :)

It really depends on where you are being routed to and whether there are difference in that basic routing between us and Mweb.

If you want to drop me PM - we can take a look at the differences and see if there is something significant that needs to be looked into :(

Currently streaming a video at a speed of between 0.08mpbs and 0.24mpbs. How long is it going to take to resolve this issue?

Yeah, international has been crap for me today on the business account but excellent on the capped account.

My browsing seems to be normal but I'm just getting over 100KB/s with downloads. At times it drops to under 100KB/s. Usually I get a stable 420KB/s. I'm on a 4meg line, capped package. So far the hole day I've been getting these speeds..

Getting awful speeds in cape town - Speedtest of 0.80Mbps on my 2Mbps line, what's going on?

Please fix ASAP.

mine to switched to my webafrica account and much better

Everyone else - could you please post up some traceroutes, your current location and what package you're on?
Might even be better to post in our official Capped and Uncapped thread :)

As I mentioned previously, we aren't seeing anything that could be causing these issues.

We aren't seeing any general issues on our network. Which account are you using?

I'm on a 2mb uncapped account in Cape Town and I've been having this issue since May (I started this thread). I've not had a single week where I haven't had massive inconsistencies in speeds. I've submitted so many tests and guess what...they don't reveal anything wrong. Yet I've sent a video recording to your support department showing me trying to stream a video on Youtube at a 1/3 of my line's speed.

That's far too long to be going unresolved :(
I've run through my inbox briefly and can't seem to spot anything from you, did you maybe PM AfriMan?
