Fix the FREAKING IPC already. Honestly, how is it that with a fibre network, nobody once damn-well thought "Hey, a lot of bandwidth is gonna go through there... We should probably consistently improve it to maintain the network demand:capacity ratio."

Oh wait, right, it's more like this: "$_$", said MTN, Telkom and Afrihost.

Upgrades are on the way :)

Upgrades are on the way :)

There are always upgrades on the way for everything. The problem is that the upgrades are two steps behind the demand. There should always be enough capacity for the customers, not just a "oh look people are complaining, we had better do something which should temporarily fix it" situation.
What happens two months after the upgrades are done and it's running low on capacity again?

I fully understand, and agree that upgrades are a constant here.
In this case, the demand looked to go beyond what was planned for - I don't think this could have been anticipated.

I will ask this again for the 5th time. WHY DO YOU THEN ALLOW PEOPLE TO SIGN UP????????? and please dont give me that BS that it is the existing customer base using more

You won't get an answer to this, this question and similar have been asked countless times on this thread as well as the Capped thread and I have yet to see it answered.
This is why I believe that the whole "We care about our customers" & "The Customer's experience" is a bunch of bollocks.
These guys are coining it and they don't give a damn about the consumer who actually needs the service to run their business and make a living.

Why do these people keep signing on new customers when they don't even have enough capacity for their current customer base, the answer to this is $$$$$$$.

AH staff can claim whatever they want about caring and understanding, they don't give a crap.

I don't think it's feasible or realistic to simply halt signups.
While demand is high, additional signups won't have an affect. This may be different if we saw thousands upon thousands of signups, but that's all hypothetical.

We've done the maths, there would be no benefit in stopping signups.

Still odd how other ISP's seem to have far less issues, maybe trying to cut costs in the hope does not work anymore? Odd that the south upgrade is still not live??

Telkom are applying the upgrades through at different times, the North and South will see upgrades soon.

Hope this is not the same maths that predicted network usage?

Hey Guys

Some great news. We've received our upgrade in the North and we're already seeing better performance overall. Our technical team will be monitoring and calibrating the network over the next while, but we expect most people will be getting much better performance.

Please let us know if anyone from the North is still having a poor experience (especially seeing any latency or very poor throughput), but bear in mind that it will take us a little time to get the network working optimally with the new IPC in place.

Thanks to everyone for their patience while this was being sorted out.

Well, changed my preferred DNS from 196.7.7.7 to 8.8.8.8 and guess what TWITCH plays flawlessly, no buffering at all even on live broadcasts....Youtube still has the odd buffer on 1080p videos have to refresh the page for video to start playing again...

So more users doesnt mean more usage??? No it isnt feasible because you expect us to be happy for this pathetic service.

It will obviously create extra load, but not to the point where it would degrade.
Please see the latest update here:

NNTP Traffic still in the toilet. (both Astraweb and Afrihost news servers).

Speedtest also showing 3mbps on a 20mbps line.

Testing with mweb no issues.

Will you update us when your team have completed the work to make use of the new capacity?

What point are we at now? Is it not degraded?

Degrade to the point of being completely unusable, but I think we've discussed this at length previously :)
As per the upgrade, we're moving forward with things and improvements should be seen soon.
