Will this have any positive effects on streaming buffering, even if it wasn't buffering when my speedtest showed full speed?

AH's streaming issues are mainly due to routing. A lot of the Youtube streaming is done via UK on AH, whereas nearly ALL other ISP's are using local Google servers for Youtube access. Other streaming should be much much better if AH manages to fix all the latency spikes and packet loss on their side.

We all wait to see.... :erm:

Because your boss and your company does not care about the ISP, or the mail routing issues. That is why they have you. They need internet for the company to make money and succeed. If not, your customers will go somewhere else.

Like I said, if your bosses are coming to ask about internet then there is an issue. What do you tell them, a public internet forum said everything will be ok? lol. I would have kicked you out and replaced you with someone more competent long ago. Network admins are a dime a dozen.

Ag Njar woef man.

So removing our shaping.... I know, I know. Will say it before you do. Business Uncapped is an unshaped product :)

Business Uncapped is entirely unshaped. ;)

Seriously though, this problem was affecting our Business Uncapped and Capped users, which theoretically should be unshaped, but as I am sure you have noticed is not currently the case.

Indeed. But live streaming problems I have cannot be only due to routing, as it works fine on the test account AfriGenie sent me - a normal, capped account, according to him. I even bought a 10GB capped account to see whether it might be shaping on the Business Uncapped account, but it stuttered in equal amounts to my normal account.

This also implies that at the moment it's Afrihost that is artificially creating the current contention on the network. It therefore follows, that Afrihost did NOT get the full IPC upgrades for the various regions, and has been stalling and continuing to "optimise/manage" all user accounts, while still signing up new clients.

So, once again, WE are paying for your upgrades, so that you can provide s**t service, with an even worse overall user experience, just so that you can maintain and create the illusion of growth to your shareholders (parent company, MTN).

Hey Afrihost! Here's a novel idea... how about you actually sell a premium product, instead of hinting at one and charging the full price??? You do realise that DOES amount to fraud??? Or is that just my opinion AGAIN?
:wtf:

I can assure you the IPC upgrades were definitely installed and completed as we had previously mentioned.

From what I can see, this is more along the lines of a system error and less of a capacity issue.

Our service to our clients is still our highest priority, and I can't emphasize this more, your clients will always be put first in all matters, and we will try to make sure you get the service that you need.

It seems I was a bit lucky with my account, since Sunday I have been having the exact same problems on my home connection. I'm looking forward to these system updates being put in place and working!

I just wish I had my humble little 4Meg line working like it did a few months back ....

I dont know if its Telkom or AH .... I dont know what the problem is .... All I know, is I miss my 4 Meg line and all these comments make me nervous.

What I do find strange, is that when I was on 4 megs consistently, everyone was trying to sell me a 10 Meg line and account.... now, Telkom via AH tell me I can only get 3 Megs at best. In reality, I am lucky to get 1 Meg.

I just want my humble little 4Meg line back.

I think that it is time Afrihost apologized to their clients publicly and delivered the service we are all paying for!!!

I also think AfriGenie let us know bit more than he was supposed to.

I read on this thread someone mentioning "FRAUD"....I wonder how would/will this play out with reference to the consumer protection act.

Bottom line is we are not getting the service we are paying for and this has been going on for months.

Now lets get some honesty and immediate action before this gets really ugly.

I think using the word Fraud is not entirely fair. Fraud implies we are purposefully sticking it to our clients to get some sort of benefit out of this. Trust me when I say I am taking no pleasure at all out of this entire process, and if you had any idea what our offices looked like at the moment, you would see that we are running around like a bunch of insane people trying to get our Capped and Business Uncapped users the bandwidth speeds that they should be getting.

Things haven't been great over the past few weeks, but once we get things working smoothly again, you will see a dramatic improvement in the speeds that you will get.

Yeah. Fraud is a bit of a strong word in this case. Incompetence is probably a bit more accurate, and not nearly as harsh.

Why are HTTP downloads ungodly slow in PTA East?

Quite a few of our Business Uncapped and Capped users are not getting the bandwidth throughput that they should be getting. Our Team is working hard to resolve the issue and get all the accounts running at the correct speeds.

Mate do you know how you guys currently sound when you come with the above statement?

I think you should realize who you are addressing on this forum!!! Lets me make something clear.

You are addressing clients who have not yet left you as a provider and are giving you the benefit of doubt.

In other words clients who have stuck by your side, clients who have recommended you in the past and who are looking like fools to their friends and families right now.

And please do not use the word "Weeks" as this has been going on over 3 months.

So please respect us as clients who ultimately keep you in business and pay your salaries.

Have the decency to be honest and transparent with us.

We are adjusting the resource pool for our Unshaped users now, this change will then ensure each account receives the correct volume of bandwidth and not the reduced speeds that you guys are seeing.

So after months, of Afrihost denying any issues, you have finally admitted to what we have been saying all the time. Its never been the exchange, or contention. But you won't refund clients until we ask, and even then your company disputes the duration of the issues.

Could someone please clarify this for me? What do you call when our service provider on purpose denies the true reasons behind us as clients not getting the product/service we are all paying for? And blame them on something that is actually not the issue as mentioned above.

Although it does appear so, the IPC issues and the problems occurring now are entirely separate. The current problem started when updates were made to our Network Management Software over the weekend, and the system did not behave as we expected it would. The changing of the resource pools was simply one way of troubleshooting and trying to narrow down potential causes. I should point out that our Business Uncapped users and Capped users remained unshaped at all times.

As a client who is willing to give you the benefit of doubt and a last chance, what is the eta on this fix (when can we expect to be running at full speeds) and also what guarantees can Afrihost give us that this will not be an issue in future again.
