The results look good here, I know we've made some progress on Twitch.
Are you seeing poor performance all over or only certain streams?

Can't be 100% sure, but it seems like the higher latency is being pushed through on the exchange :(

Speeds are great and everything is (usually) responsive -- local or international. I get a consistent 460~480KB/s. Back on my old Telkom 10mbps account, I couldn't use our XBMC raspberry pi, because international was throttled so much. Now it's practically instant. Latency has been a problem since the start and it often spikes. Not great for gaming, from my experience, but downloading, media consumption, P2P and browsing is a blast.

Could you PM me a few examples that I can test?
 
So .........

I am back on track ...... It appears that the Netgear DGN2200 is lemon. After two of these and all sorts of digging, I finally swapped it out for a TP Link W8970.

Running like a train - my suspicions that the router was the problem seem to have been right.

I used the DGN2200 and didn't see any issues, maybe you got a funky batch.
Glad things are looking up though :)
 
Must say my performance has been pretty good the last few weeks, although I've had nothing to stream, but at least downloads are mostly full speed.

And the constant disconnections were caused by corrosion at the exchange on my port, or whatever you call it. Victor from Telkom moved it to another one, and no disconnection since 10 December - touch wood.
 
On the subject of routers, I have a D-Link 2640U. Is there any reason to change, since it was pretty cheap? I.e. will I see any benefit on AH in terms of better streaming, more consistency, less latency etc. if I buy something better, and that might be more suited to AH for any particular reason? And perhaps something a bit more user-friendly?

Probably a dumb question, but I've been wondering about this ever since I got ADSL for the first time.

Not a fan of D-link, I have a TP-Link which are also cheap but seem to do the job, but to answer your question, no I don't think it would make any difference.

It's a good router, you only need to swap it out if you are having problems. I swapped mine out because the wifi was still max ~200kB/s before it got to the walls due to fall damage (maid knocks it off the table when cleaning).

You won't see much of a benefit to streaming asf. if you get a new router.

Thanks, all I needed to know. :) It performs pretty flawlessly, every issue I've had so far were either ISP or Telkom.

Not sure exactly what examples you're looking for. I play League of Legends (EUW), DoTA 2 (ZA) and Guild Wars 2 (EUW). All of the server IP addresses are hidden as far as I can tell.
