specially with easter coming up

For sure! I'm pretty sure no-one wants to sit with an iffy connection during the best time of the year to binge watch and binge play all the series, movies and games that have piled up over the past few months.

Interesting experiences today with downloading. These are all business related files - videos and exe setup files.
ShareFile (USA based server I believe) averages about 30kbps. Amazon S3 is a similar download rate here in Durban (our bucket is in the Ireland data centre). Google drive is much better - between 100-200kbps.

AfriGuy and / or AfriGenie - do any of these services feature in the bandwidth management and prioritisation for business customers? I keep hearing a lot about YouTube and the gaming sites, but my needs are different, that is why I have a Business Uncapped account.

Can you check if your Business Optimization is disabled in your ClientZone please, this could be affecting your downloads from those services.

If that doesn't help can you please send me a PM with your ADSL username, you should be similar download speeds for all of the services that you use.

Business Optimization is basically an included feature in our Business Uncapped accounts, that when enabled Shape P2P and larger HTTP downloads, this is primarily intended for smaller business that do not necessarily have the in-house expertise to block those downloads on their network during office hours.

Turned business optimisation off this morning in case it was selectively shaping these specific sites (Google Drive, Cisco ShareFile and Amazon S3). If this doesn't help I'll PM you. Strange that there can be such a big discrepancy in speeds from established CDN providers. Points to another bottleneck somewhere that I can't explain. My best guess is selective shaping (but my account is unshaped), or very high contention on specific international routes to some destinations.

Your Google Drive should be syncing to the local Google Cache, I'm not however sure if the other services you mentioned have local caches or servers in South Africa, but the difference in speeds did seem a bit much.

So how many of your non-tech-savvy customers frequent MyBB? I fail to see, that the issuing of a notice about degraded performance will result in mass panic. The purposeful decision by your management team to actively hide such information from the general public is actually more of an issue than being transparent about it. Anyone using Google Apps or AWS services will be familiar with service notices pushed to customers. The only time companies should not disclose information is if this could cause more damage (and this would only apply to what companies did during Heartbleed or similar events, where you would not disclose openly that you are patching servers due to a specific vulnerability).

I honestly don't understand why you could not just post on your public notice board "We are experiencing latency and throughput issues due to overutilisation/bugs/we-dont-know/whateva on our network and our engineers are working on it. Users will experience degraded performance when doing XXX" - can't be that difficult and I am failing to understand how this can result in "mass panic".

So by the sounds of it, very soon we are all getting another soppy mail from Gian - flashback November 2014, after 3 months of not wanting to "blow things out of proportion" - http://www.fin24.com/Tech/Mobile/Afrihost-apologises-for-network-problems-20141121

I didn't think that I need to explain to your executives the basics about corporate governance and transparency, but wilfully deciding not to disclose issues which result in not providing customers with the agreed service is certainly wrong and unethical. The only reason your executives decided to withhold such information (as in previous cases) was to avoid customer churn (which you faced anyway).

Dude, just check out Axxess's network status. AH's sister company is not scared to post the truth, as she has bigger balls!

is there an issue in CPT again guys? My torrents and streaming seems to be slow again.....

:erm:

I'm seeing All-Green on the Axxess Network Status Page... Where are you seeing a network notification?

Are you seeing any reduced throughput on your other services? How is streaming and browsing etc.

Lets hope this gets sorted out soon. I need to download a few games on Steam tonight for my son, its his birthday soon. My speed seemed ok this morning, but I am not in the office to check the speeds at present. Still seem to get slower speed though than what I expected on a 10Mbps line.

If you see a discrepancy in your speed, please let us know!

Well I upgraded from 8Mbps to 10Mbps and have seen no speed increase in any downloads

Switching from 8Mbps Business Uncapped to 10Mbps Business Uncapped, the speed will not increase immediately, it will only take affect at 00h00 after the upgrade was requested.

Is your ADSL line syncing on the 10Mbps profile at the moment? That could also affect your download speed.

He upgraded a week ago.
