When my internet is running full speed, it is absolutely awesome on AH - better than with other ISPs that I have tested.
As I have said ( and many others) - I would just like to have the usual AH experience that I have come to enjoy.

I've never had issues downloading on AH. Even with their recent issues. So with that part I have no problem.

However having experienced packet loss for the 3 moths and counting...it is unbearable. Average packet loss on AH - 6% - 19%. Average on my new ISP - 0%. Yea...no. Trying to palm it off on high "short" periods of contention is no excuse as those "short" periods are the only time when people that work all day have some time to relax and enjoy some gaming. Which has been impossible on AH for 3 months and counting. I'm in the South mind you. The guys up north don't have this packet loss problem by all accounts.

Since I'm not a heavy downloader I don't care about daytime downloading. Pings, packet loss and being able to stream twitch at source are my requirements and AH cannot deliver on those at present.

I started at about 10:45 pm. By 1 am when I decided to go to sleep, my speeds were still crappy - except for that youtube downloader I was talking about. Now this isn't the first time everything else is crappy and only the downloader works. So how is that possible?

Even now, this is my speedtest results:
Download Speed: 1454 kbps (181.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 411 kbps (51.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 52 ms
Thu Apr 02 2015 07:33:00 GMT+0200 (SAST)

I know there is apparently congestion on my exchange, but this is getting ridiculous now. I really don't know what to do anymore.

And now nice speeds just after 8:

Download Speed: 3285 kbps (410.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 421 kbps (52.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 49 ms
Thu Apr 02 2015 08:02:55 GMT+0200 (SAST)

I agree. I was prepared to give AH some time to get things right. But its going on too long and affecting my business. These forums are the only place where a sensible dialogue can take place with an AH representative. I really hope that in the AH "war room" a serious discussion is taking place because like many, I won't announce my move to a new ISP, I'll just disappear from this thread.

They don't need to change anything. People just don't change ISPs and keep paying for subpar service.

Congestion on the exchange is going to be a contributing factor, becuase any latency on our side is going to be compounded.

Comparison just done. Not looking for sympathy anymore. Just asking AH to clearly acknowledge a problem and provide a date when this is going to be resolved. Please don't blame the exchange, a line sync problem or a trace route problem that I have no control over. These results are 3 minutes apart, modem was not reset, just another ISP. :(

All our networks will usually see a small surge of traffic at 8am. There is no other time of the day when thousands of people literally all hit send at the same time. We do our best to soften that spike, but testing at 8am is never going to be the best result of the day.

I appreciate that. But again I ask - why does my youtube downloader run at full speed?

And with regards to the exchange - is there nothing that can be done? Yes I know that the exchange is out of your control, but can't AH keep nagging them or something? My line is managed by you guys so can't you put some constant pressure on them?

This is absolutely our intention. I use a normal AH Capped account at home (and occasionally test a Business and shaped Uncapped account) and I also feel that our network is great when we're not seeing issues (and I have compared with all our major competitors).

I really do believe that once we overcome this challenge, the network and our internet experience will be better than ever.

As I said, latency will stabilise once we smooth off that 8am sharp spike, and everything should usually settle within a few minutes.

speeds are all over the place this morning
come on ah you know what the problem is fix it
or will it be like this over easter

Yip. This is my experience with a "test account" just now on a 4Mb line. Exceeding expectations for someone who regards 3.5Mbps as exceptional. That budget could certainly be put to better use.

Last Result:
Download Speed: 5352 kbps (669 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 531 kbps (66.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 38 ms

OK, perhaps that was just unlucky. If the networks are going to experience peak times and some inevitable "load shedding" I can try work around this. When are these times exactly when AH has to soften the spike, (aside from 8am) and what is the duration?

I think many people don't change because they trust that while a short term issue may be an inconvenience (sometimes a pretty horrible one) they know that in the long term their experience with Afrihost will be a good one, and we'll spill blood and guts to do everything we can to achieve that. And this is something we are truly grateful for.

If we had a switch it would have been flipped already. We do have an idea of the problem but finding it is less like looking for a needle in a haystack and more like a needle in a stack of needles (I saw that in a movie once).

8am will always be a reliable peak, during working week days. Otherwise it will vary according to organic demand. High demand periods will also vary according the region. The South in particular seems to see very high demand between 7 and 11pm or thereabouts.

Thanks. Interesting that my 8am comparison was with an ISP package that targeted the gaming and online streaming (video) demographic. These people are obviously not highly active at 8am, hence the good result from that particular ISP offering. My AH is a business package. This could be a disadvantage because all business users "peak" at the same time (pardon the expression).

I still have some confidence that AH will get this optimisation right. Bring it on.

Afriman, please see above.

Good to hear throughput is good. Can you post something on the latency you're seeing?
