Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback - 2

I'm not an Afrihost employee, as reading the post above yours would reveal.

If an account was being throttled it should still function correctly, but at the throttled speed.

So what part about a 20MB uncapped account speedtesting at a flat 5.6MB is not throttling? When switching over to another ISP a few seconds later you get full flatline line speed?

mb not MB :P
Once* we get to fiber it will be a lot more important.

I'm not saying the network isn't performing like crap - I'm saying that it's unlikely throttling is to blame.

So why was my account exactly flat lining at that speed? Changing to another account and I get full speed. Changing back to AH and flat line again at 25% of max speed?

Why would Afrihost throttle one account out of all their customers?

Why think you know better? This whole "it works for me so everyone else is wrong" mentality from Afrihost employees is really terrible.

My business dsl account is being throttled too. Its quite obvious that Afrihost is as much of a joke ISP any other.

So, I have been a client of the followjng ISP's

Telkom
MWEB
Axxess
OpenWeb
WebAfrica

I haven't tried Telkom since I had my first DSL account on DoBroadband. I'm tempted as a result of desperation to give them a try.

My problem is not that I need the speed to be able to download stuff, my business is to provide remote support to my clients and I use remote desktop a lot. It is simply impossible for me to do any work remotely currently because I'm getting just over 1mbps with Afrihost on a 4mbps line at 12am on a weekend when most people are away on holiday. My connectivity issues cannot some down to over subscribed DSLAM or contention ratio or whatever... my problem is simply 100% ISP related.

It's time to make Afrihost my latest discarded ISP in search one that actually delivers. I'm beginning to doubt there is such a thing. Perhaps I should actually be looking for a new country to live in.

I'm not defending Afrihost and I'm not claiming that their network is working perfectly. In fact I said up above that something is very wrong with the network. All I'm saying in your case is that throttling is not the problem. It is ridiculous to think that AH went to your profile individually and throttled you down to a lower limit, and more likely to assume that whatever problem is going on is simply exhibiting similar symptoms at the moment. If you added your location to your profile it would help others in this thread in determining whether or not their issues are geographical.

My speed tests and downloads are excellent for me, but streaming is very average. Perhaps AH allocations a certain amount of bandwidth to each area in the country, and if your area is heavily populated then you're straight out of luck.

Why do you assume its only one account? This is 440 page thread and the last 100 pages relates to issues from various customers that clearly points to some sort of throttling since MTN bought AH.

Its obvious that the game has changed for AH, there is no longer such a concept as "unshaped" for Afrihost customers. That is 100% business strategy from MTN.

Afrihost have absolutely no say is how customer bandwidth is allocated any longer. Even if Gian Visser and his management team think they are on control, they aren't.

I don't think you understand what throttling is. It's not a general shortage of bandwidth that results in reduced quality of service. It's a specific lowered limitation on the maximum bandwidth permitted to a user. If Afrihost was throttling we'd be well aware of it and we'd even have worked out the thresholds by now.

But hell, I'll keep an open mind. What speeds do you typically receive day to day, and off-peak to peak hours? Have you run the Glasnost test?

You are either trolling or have no clue how bandwidth allocation works across different provinces. But I am not going to respond to you anymore.

The posts you make on this forum suggest that you're a very bitter person. Thanks for moving me out of the firing line while you sort your issues out.

Anybody else experiencing slow speeds on 10Mbps Business DSL? - downloads been sitting on 4Mbps Business DSL for the whole of today.
I am in the Randburg area, and no, its not my line, its an Afrihost account problem - have reset my line/recreated my profile from Telkom - speeds are fine using other service provider accounts.
