Good Morning everyone
Hope you all had a great Easter break (and none of the evidence ended up on Facebook).
I just want generally address some of the issues raised over the long weekend, because they all seem to be along similar lines. I think firstly talking about IPC, it seems to have become a go-to distress signal, and I just want to try to unpack this a little. IPC is our raw capacity from Telkom. It does not do any shaping and it is simply a matter of the amount of traffic we can break out of Telkom's network at any given time (in a specific region). We have other hardware and software that manages bandwidth allocations, shaping, traffic policies, etc. It is with this software that we are currently seeing P2P traffic seeping in even when we're shaped to max, and this is elevating demand to a level where it affects overall performance at peak times. Those peak times vary according to regional demand trends. We're expecting some major software updates soon as well as ongoing changes being made as we monitor traffic and try to identify how P2P traffic is being disguised or mis-classified to inflate demand.
Some of the symptoms experienced could mimic what we've seen in the past during IPC congestion, and we're also making sure that we're not behind in that department. Just so you know we have ongoing plans for IPC upgrades based on demand and those are scheduled with Telkom and MTN based on the trends we've reported and this will be an ongoing process of ensuring that the network has adequate capacity at all times.
A last comment is that I've always asked that everyone be fair to each other on our forum threads. Whether someone is an employee of Afrihost or not, my role here is to take the heat, and no-one should be attacked for venturing their opinion. I know it gets heated at times and it's not always great when someone differs with your view, but please respect the forum rules so that we can move forward, find solutions and use this as a tool to make our collective experience better wherever possible.
Thanks guys
