Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback - 2

Afrihost, do you know how long these "optimizations" are going to take? I need to see whether it will be improved before the 25th (cancellation date) or if I should start shopping for a new ISP so long. Paying for a premium service and don't seem to be getting one.

There should already be some noticeable improvement.

I'm assuming you've been experiencing some issues on your ADSL connection?

*Buzzzz* wrong answer.

Still have packetloss on your capped accounts in the South. Extensive packetloss. I would assume this would effect business accounts as they are the same just with no rate limit.

Going on 14 weeks now since I started counting.

Over last week and the beginning of the weekend gaming has not been very enjoyable on my Afrihost account and my trial Web Africa account was doing much better on the same line. I was away for the rest of the weekend so will test tonight when I get home but it wasn't good when I left.

On a perfectly working 10Mbps account, what should the local speed test results be? I am having issues where I am getting exactly the same speeds compared to when I had a 8Mbps account to my account now that is 10Mbps.

On the local speed test I used to get a ping of 15ms, its now sitting at 29ms, and sometimes even higher?

What Ive noticed is that the higher your account speed, the more you struggle to get that speed at any given time.

Im here with my 1Meg business account and im getting 112KB/s at any given time.

Are you referring to general packet loss in general on your connection or to specific services such as on Teamspeak or CS:GO?

Ok, I get 850KB/s and this is the same on a 8MB account and 10MB account (thought it should be 1024KB/s)

My line is a 10MB/s line

Is your line running at 10Mbps at the moment? Would you mind sending me a PM with your line number so that I can double check.

I'm having a similar but slightly different issue. I have a 6 meg business package on a 10 meg line. I'm able to torrent at a very stable 700 kB/s, with speeds going as high as 1 mB/s, if I unlimit it. Voip always works perfectly, and I can generally connect to games without issue, provided utorrent is closed.

My browsing experience is however atrocious. Browsing is severely impaired no matter how low I limit torrent speeds to, and while it improves when I close the program completely, websites still constantly time out even when it's closed.

I have a rainmeter extension that constantly pings a amsterdam based game server, but it mostly just returns the 30k ms time out result.

This has been going on for several weeks, with the severity of the issue varying. Some days I can't load a single page. I spoke to a Afrihost call centre person 3 weeks ago and he gave me another afrihost account to test with, but the results were the same. I also spoke to Telkom, and was told that somebody from another department would call me, which of course they never did. I was on hold for 35 mins to get through to Telkom, and 25 mins to Afrihost, so I'm not trying that again.

I thought it might have had something to do with this http://mybroadband.co.za/news/adsl/122012-adsl-problems-caused-by-new-telkom-system-isps.html

Anyone have advice/ideas?

Any Mumble server, any of the numerous BF4 local servers, PS4 The Last of Us faction multiplayer and HellDivers. Packetloss between 7% and 22%. BF remains playable - does not kick you / drop you - but your experience is pathetic. PS4 games simply drop you.

Switch to my new primary ISP - zero packetloss. So your "continuous" improvements that you've been making has had zero impact whatsoever compared to when this problem started.

Told Afriman as well - I'll continue logging in and testing my capped free account and post results. But I'm not jumping through tracert hoops for you guys again. Been there, done that and accomplished nothing. Reason why I left.

I wonder if this isn't perhaps DNS-related, if your downloads are running at all full speed I doubt there is a connection issue. Would you mind checking what your ADSL modem's DNS Settings are set to. Then, can you please switch the DNS to manual, and enter 196.7.7.7 as the primary DNS with 8.8.8.8 set as the secondary DNS. Once that is done, can you test your browsing again.

ah are you optimising your network by hand as everyday after hours and weekends it goes up to crap when you are not working
are you just juggling the capacity between regions as it sure looks like it

and the packet loss is terrible

Each region has a completely separate IPC, that runs independently of the other regions.

Part of the optimization process is exactly to ensure that things don't go to pot at any time of the day or evening.

So then its better to go back to the 8Mbps account? No use in giving money away

That seems to have solved the problem. It's running remarkably well now. I'll keep an eye on it and see how things go over the next few day. Thanks very much.
