It happened again! For the third night in a row, at precisely 10:32pm (give or take a few seconds), my NNTP download speed switched from being utterly useless to full speed. This can't be explained away as mere coincidence or natural adjustment to decreased traffic -- it is too abrupt and too precisely timed. It is clear that some form of selective restriction is lifted at that specific time. And come morning (not sure of the time yet), the affected protocols are again reduced to a snail's pace.
Just my experience. Shaping, anyone?
Well, this morning it's been business as usual -- meaning terrible NNTP downloads, while overall line speed is fine.
AfriGenie, did you read my PM's of last night? And especially, my forum post on the mysterious "10:32pm phenomenon", apparently also experienced by Bull1012 (see message #6903).

I just went through your PMs now, definitely not cool to see that.
It looks like were still leaking a lot of bandwidth over on the Uncapped accounts, and I have a feeling this is creating a knock-on affect on our Capped and Business Uncapped accounts.
We put a significant update in place on our network management software on Wednesday evening, it should start opening up a bit of bandwidth, which I think will make a difference especially for Southern Users.
It stll doesn't explain the clear symptoms of shaping we keep telling you about. Once more: my overall bandwidth is good; it's particular protocols that are subjected to severe restriction, and this is implemented (and lifted) at very precise times every day, while completely lifted over weekends. This is no "natural" bandwidth variation -- it is selective and precise, and therefore smacks of being deliberately implemented.![]()

Nice to know PMs get responded to?
I submitted a ticket yesterday for getting compensation for the bad experience, quoting specific parts of this thread as proof.
However, I expect AH to just give me the run around.
We will never get the correct answer, every time there are issues, all we get excuses and news about so called software updates etc. other ISPs never seem to be continually updating this and that, all delaying tactics. Last time it was IPC issues, and it took a long time for someone to actually admit there was an issue, but we are still expected to pay full price?
I cant even get my computers to do a Windows Update, small updates take forever to download, but I can download torrents. General browsing seems also slow. Facebook is sluggish, twitter slow to refresh. Streaming on Supersport/DSTV is *** as always, TwitchTV is useless
On another forum a user was told by AH support that there was a "glitch" on this Business Optimization setting which made it get "stuck".
They reset his account and it seems to be fine for him.
Just a general FYI.

So gaming is affected when downloads are fine, and vice versa?this will explain why the speed drops after hours and over weekends and latency is worse as there is nobody on duty to juggle the bandwidth around thus leaving us with problems till monday
shame on you
Rating = -100000
downloads are completely dead as of this moment
and going again

Looking at the pattern, it definitely appears deliberate, but I can assure you it isn't. We see a massive drop-off in demand in the South round about that time, consistently each night. We're taking steps from our side to minimize the impact of this and make sure your service is going to be more consistent.
