I can't see your second hop but there is definitely a difference in the results. My monitoring shows that latency in the North is stable, and my own tests at home seem to show the same. I have highlighted a few issues of concern on the traceroute you sent in, which seems to say there is some intermittency on the line, but it seems a lot milder on the second trace than with us.

We'll need to trouble shoot more on this. It could be that there is a latency issue which gets better when you reset your line to change accounts, and then degrades, I've seen this a few times. We'll have to test with you to determine this.

Could you run a trace on another ISP account?

Just for conclusive evidence it's AH related as I can almost guarantee they will ask the same or blame the exchange :-/

We definitely cannot influence the 2nd hop (as it appears in this trace) as this sits on Telkom's network, so the latency is between the router and the BRAS, before the traffic breaks out of IPC onto our network.

Oh I know that is the general point of departure. However there has been posts here which showed the inverse. High pings on exchange with AH account and then low pings with an IS account. It has happened.

That high latency at the exchange can also be caused by you doing a lot of uploads at the moment, like iCloud/Google+ photo backups or the like.

Saturating your upload wreaks havoc on everything else.

That's partially true, saturating your upload will affect your download as ADSL is asymmetrical, but I would expect that to show up on the traceroute in the first hop to the router because you are going to have latency reaching the router. I guess there are scenarios where this may not happen, but generally I would expect a high ping and possible packet loss to the router as well.

I definitely can confirm that the second hop cannot be influenced by our network, so I would suspect that resetting the connection is influencing the ping more than the ISP account, in which case it could be a sync degrade on the line or just an intermittent line

My experience is that 2nd hop latency (in terms of that traceroute) almost never corresponds with our network monitoring for latency, where 3rd and 4th hop latency is more likely to.

Question: Why are windows 10 updates so pathetically slow?

Same thing with downloading star citizen, can't get more than 100KB/s

Not sure if my other issue is AH related but randomly webpages just stop loading as well, quite infuriating!

We are seeing high latency in the South in the, so I think this is contention. We don't shape your downloads on Business, or any services on Business.

I'm not sure I get this - My router is connected to me by a 100Mbit cable, I am uploading at ~1Mbit/s - Surely the router and I shouldn't have latency issues, just the network beyond the router?

Indeed. You won't see latency on your local lan. Maxing out your upload will affect everything else though (browsing, etc).

Its been like this speed from midnight, very impressed.

Not a wow, pretty much spot on.... No offence AfriGenie...

My apologies, I'm definitely not ignoring, I just seemed to miss your previous post with regards to your latency. Do you still have my test account details on-hand? I just want to check if the latency occurs on that account as well.

We'll definitely help where we can. The results you're posting can only be either a line fault or congestion. We don't have any influence over the 2nd of that route, it's a device on Telkom's network.

If the fault has been logged, just PM me if you're not getting feedback and I'll chase it up for you.

The telkom guy did come out, but quite frankly, he didnt know his sphincter from his rotator cuff. He was on about the router, and suggested that the unplugged Netgear was the problem - suggesting I get a riouter with some big ariels - which is the one that IS plugged in.

He had NO idea of broadmand.

I posted trace routes from 01.00am - I am sure this is not conjestion.

I can honestly say, I have been throygh the whole distance from exchange and blah blah before. A good techie was out a few years back and sorted the issue, so I spose I will leave it to AH to contact Telkom - my line being with you.

I have sent a mail through to support, and wait a feedback on this.

Youtube is buffering 720p lately. Damn annoying. Latency is also rubbish. Loaded up my 1GB Web Africa account and there are definitely no problems with my line.

Run the Glasnost test and report back...

I ran the Glasnost test at 10:30pm (had to update Java for it to work)
The result was no shaping
It seems that shaping ends at 10:30pm as I then had full speed on my downloads again

Going to run the test when I go home this afternoon and the speed is crawling
