Routing is looping...

If I do a tracert on the 1st hop after my router. I get a loopback to it...
I can only think most of the problems is caused by this faulty routing???
Can someone with the same IP on 1st hop do the same test and let me know if its only me??

/facepalm

Morning everyone

I see a couple of people posting about latency and poor speeds but in general the network seemed to be running well and latency reports show that is was consistent, even over the high demand period where we usually see latency rise.

I did see some users misclassified and they could have had a poor experience until this was resolved, seems to have occurred between 8pm and 10pm. Demand seemed consistent, so throughput may have been poor but so far it seems like latency and packet loss shouldn't have been an issue :(

Windows 10 Updates are SHOCKING. I literally can't download a single one on Afrihost right now. Or use the beta store for that matter.
Take it to another place (no second account) and they work fine.

Remember that if you are downloading during a period when contention is high, throughput for downloads will probably be affected. We're not shaping it, it's just the nature of contention for available bandwidth. We are still working on improving the overall throughput during peak periods (mostly 8pm to 10pm) by eliminating as much Uncapped P2P traffic as possible.

The trace you are running is looping on itself, it's not a routing problem. Becuase you are tracing to your own BRAS (Telkom router) it will go through the router, via our network and back to the router.

Why are you tracing to that IP though, maybe there is a better way to test what you want to establish?

For interest. Last few months moving average of Speedtest results on Afrihost 4Mb Business Uncapped. April was really all over the place.

What is still up guys. Still suffering 30% packet loss on our business line with static IP enabled. With static IP disabled it's fine....

Sorry but this is a load of BS, at the very time I tried to download the Windows 10 updates, I stopped the download, tired Windows 7 updates, also extremely slow. Try to download a driver, from NVidia and it flies, Wake up at 6 this morning try to do the updates again, and it just sits?? How do you plan to eliminate P2P, will those downloads be shaped?

Even trying to go the Microsoft Support web sites takes forever to load, there are serious issues with your network, Twitter was also not loading correctly.

There appear to be a few users with a similar experience with Static IPs, we're working with MTN to isolate the cause and get it corrected. The last update I received MTN was implementing a series of upgrades on the hardware that handle the Static IPs.

That sounds eerily similar to the issue we experienced with international connectivity on Tuesday evening, but that has definitely been resolved. Are you seeing any other signs such as reduced download speeds and an increase in latency? How is your international traffic compared to your local traffic?

Shouldn't have been an issue, but it was for some people.

I am not in the office today to check, but this morning the speeds were bad. I need to get my Windows 10 updates installed, I cannot understand why such a simple task cannot be done, these updates are not even that big.

Thanks, please light a fire or grab the shotgun. It's been 3 days now, luckily it's not at 60% anymore like Tuesday. Thanks guys.

Thanks for bearing with this! I'll let you know once I get any updates.

Please let me know once you are able to test again. Thank you as always!

So my issue still continues, I have tried what the support guys have asked of me but still it's crap. Latency through the roof and throughput down the crapper, we never had a problem with latency before, and now i hear of contention during peak times, sorry that's no excuse for a miserable experience. Smells a lot like shaping or oversubscribing...Now to look for a new ISP....

So I'm sitting with a dilemma whether or not to go buy Mobile data until the issue with the clareinch exchange is fixed, without a Eta it makes it difficult, I don't want to go waste money and then it gets sorted straight afterwards.

been running the whole of yesterday on the test account testing an getting full speed no problems and snappy
today back on the business account and i can see not enough !!! or we are being managed as we are not even close to full speed

whats up afrigenie why is the accounts not the same
are we being bul****ted again?

Hi!

There should most definitely be any contention in the East, the network issue that we experienced on Tuesday, could definitely have affected your performance however.

I have sent you a PM, with a test account, would you mind running a traceroute to Afrihost.com, it will help a lot to see where the latency is being introduced into your connection.
