Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback - 2

I wish you weren't right but every thread here proves it. It is VERY strange that every ISP has gone to hell at once and enforced unhealthy "optimization" systems even on accounts advertised as unshaped. I myself have been looking to jump ship from Axxess for example, but see trouble everywhere else as well.

Um no.

Web Africa Business is flying.

Just checking in to report that my Afrihost 4MB Business Uncapped account has been performing brilliantly this weekend :D

(Perhaps things are starting to look up?)

Just cancelled accounts for my Father and Brother. Can browse, email, even download music from I-tunes.

My father can't game anymore, and his MIMS medical software won't connect.

So long AH.

Demand drops on weekends, so contention is less of an issue.

Nobody is taking the blame away from AH... I am the first to lay blame at their doorstep (where it usually belongs), but there have been times where ALL my ISP accounts have been just as poor (especially international). Let me not get into the shaping that is NOT happening (sarcasm).

Not all ISP's are experiencing the same issue - I have two other ISPs I am trialing at the moment that aren't experiencing the same issues at all. It's very easy to understand why Axxess and Afrihost have similar issues of late as well.

These are the accounts I have that sometimes ALL have the same throughput issues (here in Cape Town, from 2 different locations):
Afrihost Business Uncapped
Afrihost Capped
Axxess Capped
Web Africa Capped
Telkom Capped
Telkom Uncapped
VOX Fat Pipe
MWEB Capped
MWEB Uncapped

Of the above, MWEB is the only account that doesn't suffer like the others (especially international speeds) - no doubt because they refuse to peer with Telkom and have their own breakout points. My AH Business account is currently limited to max 4Mb on all links, and this started at exactly 17:00 today, as it has happened for the last 3 Sundays. I am therefore under no illusions as to who is to blame for that - Afrihost :p

As i said in my initial post, while AH has a lot of it's own issues (obviously, and no one can dispute that), there are instances that ALL ISP's here in Cape Town seem to be suffering the same degraded services. For example, take a look in ANY of the other ISP threads, and you will see many complaining of the same/similar issues.... my VOX Fat Pipe account which is "supposed" to be unshaped, has been struggling the last 4 days. Yesterday and today I had to reset the router to get some sort of performance (not unlike some of the issues I have had with my AH accounts). Vox also has DNS and routing issues making it impossible to even access certain sites, or protocols. Today I could only get 100kB/s via SSH on a 10Mb line, while at home (10Mb AH Business) I had similar issues....

Now I ask you, does that seem a bit odd to you? Coz it really seems strange that ALL ISP's country-wide could be suffering from the same demand/contention/over-selling/shortage at the same time, doesn't it?

With so many ISPs having issues, the problem may just be something on your end.

Was waiting for someone to say that..... BUT NO, it's not my line, and not the exchange. Read again, I said at least 2 locations, in 2 different suburbs.

Some of my clients have had the same issues, and not all of them are with AH.

AfriGuy or AfriMan

I still have issues getting disconnected while playing online.
Don't get any replies from you.
Playing D3 online.
Latencies shoot through the roof at times over 1000ms.

Also got that, but latencies seemed to hover at the 1000ms for Friday and Saturday, by 3PM on Sunday I had the first signs of a 300ms ping.

My latency on Crystal Web stays between 220ms and 250ms :)

I am in the process of cancelling all my services (R22k and 5.5TB monthly) with Afrihost as I feel they are waiting for all the Heavy users to jump ship so they get the extra capacity that is on "order"

Look at my tracert route.

Packet loss and cant play online.

That's a little weird. .co.za should redirect to our .com address. Must have been a timeout but latency otherwise looks normal though. Is your connection perhaps intermittent?

Life sucks at Afrihost tonight

Download Speed: 316 kbps (39.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 759 kbps (94.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 101 ms
10/10/2014 20:19:37

On a 10Meg line

Looks very poor. Latency is also pretty horrible for a local test :(
