Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback - 2

I know there is a lot of speculation happening here, and when network performance hasn't been great this is often something that people assume that we're shaping or throttling. We have to be very careful that we don't diminish the product, even in the short term. We can allow a measure of contention as this is covered in our terms, but we can't actively rate limit services or protocols on an unshaped product. I think it would create something much worse that a poor experience today to go back on our client's trust and I don't think our management or engineers would ever do that :(
The way I see it it is very simple . Afrihost is expected to supply a service based on a certain parameters for a price . The problem this month is that we are not getting the service which we pay for and you don't know when Afrihost is going to be in a position to supply a proper service . The ISP (or the bank) is not my friend and everybody how thinks diffrently can try and miss ONE payment .
Botton line If you can supply the product for the price , good NO bye bye . The rest like throteling ,shaping ,optimizing ,trust ,soon everything is going to be OK etc is meaningless.

Not sure how weeks became months in your post ;)

Well you have until the end of the month the I'm cancelling, I'm not sitting through another whole month of this.

Hierdie netwerk is so op en af soos n hoer se panty!

Strangely enough my service has improved in the last few days, downloads are running along nicely, I hope Murphy doesn't come at me for saying that

I do believe that we are supplying a service in line with what has been signed up for. We know that the experience has not been as good as it has been when we've had less demand or more spare capacity, but that is not the same as non-delivery.

Our aim is still to improve our service to meet what we feel is the right internet experience, and to try to get best performance on all services that are important to our clients, and we're definitely spending the money and investing the time to ensure that we do that to the best of our ability.

Sorry you feel this way. I do hope that we could see the IPC upgrades before that, but I don't have an ETA that I can promise you. Totally respect your decision, and let's hope it doesn't come to that :(

Well, Murphy has been visiting me for to long, where are you, I'm sure Murphy would like a change of scenery....

Some dude at some other ISP said when they upgrade IPC, it takes about a week.

I'm pretty sure that's not the case, there were several articles in MyBB at the end of last year about the long wait times for IPC upgrades which was confirmed by several ISPs.

Believe me, nobody is more motivated to upgrade our network than us. We'd like to deliver an awesome service and also keep our clients happy (after all, we rely on clients for our livelihood) so we'd definitely not be delaying anything on our side.

We don't have a firm date but we have been told that the IPC could go live within the next few weeks at most. As soon as I have a more specific date confirmed, I will let everyone know.

thanks, its really sad to have a bad experience with your business accounts because I could not fault it in the past, at least compared to other ISP,

I just feel in cases like this you guys need to be open and honest, make it public on the website, send out an email, say you have IPC capacity problems and it should be resolved in the next month or two depending on Telkom supplying demand.

Heck you could even bump your business accounts price wise, I feel for most of us using business accounts we would rather pay extra and get a consistent service during all times of the day.

Glad to hear that things are improving for you. We are generally seeing better overall performance, so hopefully when the new IPC comes in, your experience will be super-awesome :)

I know that it hasn't been a good as it has been previously, but we will definitely get Business and all our DSL products to perform the way that we expect them to shortly. It's definitely a priority for us to have simple products that just work awesomely, so you shouldn't need to pay more - and that will be the case again very, very soon.

Be careful what you are saying as on the webiste you state the following "You get Premium unshaped broadband, and you always get what you paid for. Our Capped DSL accepts up to 10 concurrent connections, all of which can connect to the internet at the highest speed your line can go." - This has not been the case, so i dont think you can say you are giving us what we signed up for.

Our terms do allow for the possibility of contention, but ultimately our aim is to provide an unshaped experience. Any performance issues are a result of contention, not shaping or throttling, which is what the claim refers to.

For clients using our network, it should definitely not be a long wait. As soon as I have a rough date we can expect the capacity to be lit up, I'll update. Pretty sure it's not going to be months from what I've been assured.

http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/609580-Afrihost-Lack-of-IPC-Feedback

I'm just going on previous IPC upgrades that happened earlier in the year. There is nothing wrong with using the term weeks as it seems shorter, but chances are this isn't going to happen in a week or two. It just seems that "weeks" is a nice way to make it seem like the problem is short lived, but with Telkom delays and other uncontrollable issues that can crop out it's not realistic.

So, prove me wrong and get it done before November :D

My internet is miraculously blasting away again. Back to excellent performance. Whatever has changed, it's working.

I definitely don't think it would be months. We'd be pretty close to the Telkom network freeze, which would mean January/February which is definitely not going to do much to address the issue.

I'm hoping that we'll see the upgrades before November. I'm guessing we'll get a thumbs up from you if that goes well ;)
