Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback - 2

As I mentioned earlier, downloads (which include P2P) may be degraded to avoid network contention.

FFS ...

please, just forget the face-saving PR "keep AH looking good with the side-step soon apologies" mumbo-jumbo...
just say it,
ALL Afrihost accounts are being shaped until you can manage to sort out your IPC...
again,
as like last year
and earlier this year...

clicking your Dorothy-Ruby-Red-Afrihost-Slippers(TM) and repeating the Afri-deny-avoidtheissue-schpeel over and over again aint fixing anything...
no one is buying it...

stuck record repeating soon soon soon soon is tiresome now...

what is wrong, what has been done, when will it be fixed... 1.2.3...

Ok I've found the right thread and judging by the posts It seems everyone on business accounts are now being shaped or degraded or optimized whatever you want to call it sound like the same thing in the end.

Business accounts have Business Optimization Buttons on our clientzone; mine is currently Deactivated by choice.
Can Afriguy please answer me is this button there merely as a front? And Afrihost will still shape;optimize;degrade our traffic as they see fit? The choice in Clientzone is really only there to give your Business clients the illusion of a business account?

Please tell me what the difference between a Uncapped and Business Uncapped account is except the price then?

We've been extremely transparent about this, from the get go.
This is due to an increase in demand.

Again, this is by no means a permanent way forward for the accounts. They will return to what they used to be.

So let me help clear this all up transparently...

1. Afrihost are experiencing high demand which is causing degraded service/contention affecting all clients.

2. Network optimisation has been implemented to avoid contention. Network optimisation includes shaping, some protocols(p2p and the like) more than others.

3. Afrihost are aware of the problem, but have yet to communicate with all clients via an official press release(email??). Which I guess is fine because most people will just think it's a Telkom line fault again.

4. The accounts affected will return to what they used to be, but Afrihost is not willing to advise on an expected resolution date.

That's it folks!

I'm not really sure how it's being implemented, it is different to shaping though.
Download may only become degraded if the demand becomes too high, whereas shaping is something that's more consistent.

In order to degrade the performance of downloads (such as p2p), surely you would need to apply shaping to those particular ports. "Shaping" is not something that needs to be "consistent". Hence, you have isp's that openly shape during office hours, etc..

It sounds like you are suggesting that AH have a dynamic shaping policy (which shapes based on network strain). That is very far from being "unshaped" as AH advertise. Dynamic shaping is still shaping.

That's not the case.
I cover the difference in a few posts above

For what it's worth, turning on Protocol Prioritisation has helped with a few of the speed issues I was experiencing today.

"Under no circumstances are you to admit the shaping to MyBB - that'll be the end of us!"

In summary of what's been discussed here:
Higher demand has created contention and a poor overall experience. Various measures/ tweaks have been put in place to avoid high latency on the network.

Downloads may be degraded if contention becomes too high. This is something that is completely dynamic and isn't done all the time.

Smells like 2013 all over again. New capacity will be ordered, we will have to wait months. Lots of swearing and heart attacks. All will be good again and then will be ****ed again come the next IOS release. Cause it seems like AH issues are directly linked to Apple releases...

O boy..

Well, your support seem to have no problem saying that business accounts are being shaped, I even asked him to confirm with his supervisor/manager and after being put on hold, he confirmed that we are indeed being shaped, there were other interesting stuff that he said and not sure whether I should post it....

As I said earlier, I'm chatting to the team now to make sure we'll all on the same page to avoid further conflicting info.

Wow. P2P is dead. This is the first time I've ever noticed such a thing on this business account. Having to use a P2P-to-http service on an unshaped account isn't very pleasant.

I know it's frustrating, really sorry about that :(

Of course you should post it!
