Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback - 2

How do you guys at Afrihost feel about taking peoples money and not giving them the service promised? My P2P is dead, 0.2kb/s on a business uncapped, this is as close to theft as you can get.

Things can change really fast in AH land!

Torrent downloaded to 400mb, and p2p speeds have come to a crashing halt! 5kbps at most, but at the same time line speed remains excellent:

Last Result:
Download Speed: 8527 kbps (1065.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 804 kbps (100.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 18 ms

AfriGuy I call BS... you guys are definitely prioritising per protocol on business accounts. This is proof enough for me...

Just to confirm, another SAIX speedtest:

Last Result:
Download Speed: 8642 kbps (1080.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 762 kbps (95.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 13 ms
2014/10/08, 1:31:35 PM

All the while my test torrent is running at 3.3 kB/s (avg. 129.6 kB/s)... and that avr is dropping every second. This is a well seeded torrent btw!

No shaping/ throttling is being done - however downloads may be degraded due to contention.

Nonsense. All other protocols seem to be quite fine... only torrents are being affected.
...and before you make a comment about seeds, the files in question have 2000 seeds and 3000 peers - was working at full speed this morning before 10:30. The speeds started dropping from then, and at exactly 12:30 there has been virtually no throughput.

...and just for that, and because I am tired of being treated like a 2 year old, I am bleeding the line at max speed on NNTP :p

"vee hav many vays to make ze line talk, Dr. Jones.... :p

It depends on how the network is being optimised to avoid contention.
I know it's not great, and I know it's not what everyone is used to on the account - but I'm sure improvements aren't long off now.

Can't see any issues on our end, could be a temporary connection issue. Try assigning another connection and rebooting :)

@Afriguy, what is up with my account, NNTP is completely dead and so is P2P, come on man, how long do I have to keep asking for it to be fixed....Don't say that it has been escalated cause no one has contacted me....

optimised = prioritised = shaping
...don't say it.... "it may feel that way"
yeah right

What is the difference between shaping and optimization? What steps are taken during this optimization? Something similar to QoS?

As I mentioned earlier, downloads (which include P2P) may be degraded to avoid network contention.

afrihost is shafting each and every one of us sooo hard its starting to be funny.

Again, why doesn't AH just come clean and tell us, your loyal paying customers, exactly what these priorisations 'to avoid network contention' are? That way my business and I can make an informed business decision as to whether or not the AH business ADSL product is right for our needs.

I cannot see any value in beating around the bush and in-so-doing frustrating and losing long time clients! Also, why not tell us exactly what AH's plans are to deal with the current issues and what the anticipated resolution dates are?

Come on AfriGuy, we need honesty and transparency please.

We've been extremely transparent about this, from the get go.
This is due to an increase in demand.

Again, this is by no means a permanent way forward for the accounts. They will return to what they used to be.

Dont worry, they are looking into it...."it" being a infinite black hole.LOL.

Wait.. So can you please explain the difference between "optimizing" and "shaping"? Because that sounds like shaping to me..

I'm not really sure how it's being implemented, it is different to shaping though.
Download may only become degraded if the demand becomes too high, whereas shaping is something that's more consistent.

Just spoke to support and they said that certain protocols are shaped on business but not supposed to be zero throughput...

That's not the case, apologies for the incorrect info. I'll chat to our team to ensure we'll all on the same page.
