Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback - 2

From the MyBB conference it became very clear that Afrihost were selling their business accounts at a loss. And now it's coming to bite them in the ass. They are by far the cheapest compared to other ISPs for that offer, something was definitely up. Even Axxess has started to throttle their business accounts. It just wasn't "sustainable. Same thing happened to the home accounts months ago.

We've always used a model to subsidise our bandwidth by investing our "marketing budget" into making our prices cheaper. So the money we could have spend on TV advertising, radio advertising, etc, get put back into our pricing to make it more affordable to clients. This also allows us to price below cost in some instances.

However, we do forecast and ensure that our pricing is sustainable, because we don't ever want to be in a position where we have to raise prices. The savings we make always go back into making products more affordable or attractive.

Why am I paying full price for this????? I can't even provide remote support to my customers on a business uncapped account as I have to wait a minute or two between every click.

That definitely sounds pretty awful to deal with. Remote connections or VPN should be performing as normal, but we did see some high demand affecting overall throughput last night and this morning. Our team are busy working on this to see if the network policies are working efficiently.

Anyone have a clue how the rest of the AH accounts are performing. Are capped and normal uncapped accounts performing at full speed after hours and if so could this be a method of balancing traffic?

I'm on a 150gb capped account and I can assure you the performance is bad. It's almost always terrible, speeds bouncing around all over the place, and generally getting less than 50% of my 10meg line speed.

Afrihost Capped in Southern Cape is still meh, even after hours.
It is inconsistent and seems to be "throttled" to around a third of line speed most of the time.
+- 2.5Mbps average on a 6Mbps line, spurting to brief periods of 4Mbs and then crashing to 1Mbs during the day.
Downloads seem to be capped at around 50Kbps to 100Kps and even after hours rarely reach anything near line speed here.
Torrents tho' either fly or just crawl, no matter how healthy or well seeded they are... a hit and miss probably dependent on Afrihost's network "prioritization" and * coff * dynamic contention.
Lucky to get Youtube to stream at anything above 360 without buffering... forget twitch.tv etc.
Sluggish and slow is the new normal and awesome(TM) internet capped experience... struggle, stutter and buffer for the full price.

All the above are instantly resolved just by using any other ISP each and every time.

I have quite a few clients also on AH that are complaining about the horrible speeds, advised them all to cancel as AH does not seem to care and have still not come up with any solution other than shaping the crap out of everything.

We definitely care and we are looking at all the options available. Unfortunately some solutions are not going to be quick to implement (like upgrades for example) so we have to focus on what can be done now to improve our client's overall experience while we look at whatever else is available.

We'll definitely need to look into this, but at the moment it looks like demand is pretty high. Our team is looking into this as we suspect that our network policies may not be working as they should to manage demand as they have in the past few days when performance has been much better :(

Afriperson

Please. do me a favour, take walk down to your accounts dept and klap someone .... then read this.

I have an INVOICE for R797 - but have been debited for R897 two months in a row.
The accounts contend it has to do with a 10 mbps line upgrade - that 1. I didnt ask for 2. I dont have 3. I was never invoiced for.

I have mailed the accounts in reply from the CP, but please, lets not get into a tennis match on this.

I'll need to see exactly what has happened here, but definitely doesn't sound right. Did you perhaps receive an email saying there was a discrepancy between your line speed at Telkom and speed on ClientZone?

Drop me a PM and I'll check it out.

Speed and performance is once again horrible.
Struggling to open web pages, virtually no throughput on all protocols.
Time-outs on traces.... 5 instances of no throughput in the last 20 minutes...
Latency really high... CT server normally 11ms, now sitting at 90ms. JHB normally 33ms, now at 80ms. International normally 156ms, now at 323ms. Test the line 5 minutes later and get completely different results.

W T F ??????

My stuff's feeling a bit slower today as well. Downloading the spy tape PDFs failed in my browser, I needed to do it in FDM. It really sucks to see how quickly performance goes down when the bandwidth pool is pretty much depleted. I hope this gets resolved soon.

For those that are thinking of moving, put your cancellations in now. You can always uncancel if there if the issue is fixed before the 25th.

At least they should see the amount of cancellations and hopefully try to fix the issues a bit quicker. If you keep paying, there is no problem.

I understand that capacity is probably the issue here. But what I do not understand is how this ALWAYS goes hand in hand with the IOS update? I just do not understand this! Where else can one go, cause I am sick and tired of this bs!!

How are things doing over @ mweb ,seriously thinking about moving.

I will be paying you only 1/4 of my monthly premium this month due to your absolute lack of service. Thank you very much. 4mb line can't even get 100kb/s average. Fkn pathetic service!!

The problem is the whole damn industry.

How the hell can Afrihost advertise this "Uncapped DSL
Download to your heart's content
Why count your Bytes? Get the power of unthrottled, unmetered Broadband and make sure you always get the best of the internet without having to watch your usage - ever!
"

in BIG bold letters, yet have a small asterisk next to pricing saying "Our uncapped packages are subject to an Acceptable use policy"

Advertising standards are less than honest to say the least.

This is accurate though, we don't throttle bandwidth and we don't take any punitive measures based on usage (like throttling or blended internet). All our products are subject to our AUP, and in the product description we further say that it is a semi-shaped product.

We have an issue at the moment with Static IPs that clients are authentication but not getting throughput. We've got our team working on this, we're waiting for further feedback.

Ahh we are getting closer to you saying it is shaped. Now just remove the "semi" and we will be right once again.. Optimizing my ass

That is in reference to Uncapped DSL not business. I think you need to read the reply in the context of the question that was asked :(
