Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback - 2

From my perspective this is not good enough for a business grade service! There certainly seems to be something seriously wrong over at AH. I'm wondering if they are not trying to shed heavy users to reduce peak demand? But we're not heavy users(clientzone stats 3.5 GB/day). Why doesn't AH simply banned P2P on business ADSL during business hours. The guys that want to use an unshaped unthrottled business product can then do it after hours! The issue I see is that AH's business and home uncapped are priced too close to each other, with heavy download users opting for business uncapped so as to get the best possible speeds! I don't see the point of paying extra for a so called business grade product if it under-performs during business hours, and then performs better after hours!

?????

May I ask who you are to decide that p2p is never business. Often use p2p to transfer larger files between Cape Town and Joburg branch at work. Also when at home and getting a file from work, it will use p2p.

EDIT: Shortened your Quote.

I understand that P2P has it's (minor) business uses. But by far most people use it for downloading large torrents. There are many other efficient options for transferring file over the web without P2P... dropbox, FTP, unix rsync(server 2 server) and many many cloud based http transfer clients.

I can't see that it would be such a big deal.

Dropbox + all cloud based examples: First have to upload to cloud and then get from there.
Unix rsync: Not using a linux machine, windows server.
FTP: Needs a server, not all files are on the server, some on a work machine. Also requires more set-up.

The nice thing with p2p is that it is extremely simple to set up and anyone can use it at home with the usual software that most of us have installed on our pc's.
EDIT: another advantage of p2p is the limiting, don't know if you can do that with FTP, guess it depends on what software you use.

The big deal: Paid for it, why are your needs more important the other guy who paid the same amount?

The main issue is that even the protocols you have mentioned are also performing extremely poorly.
My 10Mb Business account struggles to get more than half it's speed from SFTP/SSH at the moment. Mostly, it starts quick and in 5 minutes levels out at 300kB/s. This is a far cry from the speeds I was getting last year when I signed up.

Changing the nature of the account is not a solution... AH should have bought more capacity the moment they used the "contention" excuse, but yet, they are still "discussing it".... this is a clear indication of not thinking about the client. If they were thinking of the client, and the "overall user experience", they would have admitted the shortage immediately, given an ETA to resolution, and offered a token of discounts to the clients while they sorted out THEIR issues. I also run a service-orientated business, and this is the LEAST you can do to placate your unsatisfied customers. I don't see why paying clients have to "sit tight" and foot the bill, when the issue is one of service delivery failure on the part of the provider (MTN/Telkom/AH, or whoever).

...but alas... I must be wrong, and my views are too idealistic :(

From the MyBB conference it became very clear that Afrihost were selling their business accounts at a loss. And now it's coming to bite them in the ass. They are by far the cheapest compared to other ISPs for that offer, something was definitely up. Even Axxess has started to throttle their business accounts. It just wasn't "sustainable. Same thing happened to the home accounts months ago.

Leave them and go for someone that isn't based on the MTN network. It's the only solution :/ I doubt these national issues to do with demand will get fixed. It just seems like Afrihost is tucking their heads between their balls and praying people will stop downloading. Idk why Afrihost doesn't just throttle the living **** out of torrents and large downloads (excluding streaming) in the areas until they fix it.

Well don't you think that looks like they are throttling the living **** out of torrents? Everything else is perfect. Youtube streams at 720p, sites load as fast as always.. But noooo p2p is "optimized". I have been reading on other threads and I just do not know where else to go. Everyone seems to have some niggle. No perfect ISP out there

I agree, lets hope that an ISP will appear to save us all from the madness....

Oh that was a speed from bittorrent. Sorry I misunderstood.

Why am I paying full price for this????? I can't even provide remote support to my customers on a business uncapped account as I have to wait a minute or two between every click.

I have quite a few clients also on AH that are complaining about the horrible speeds, advised them all to cancel as AH does not seem to care and have still not come up with any solution other than shaping the crap out of everything.

My thoughts exactly.

But don't worry, when Afriwhoever logs on and starts replying to posts in this thread tomorrow morning, we will at least be guaranteed to get the same useless answers and generic replies as always, which is a better guarantee than their Business account guarantee they still so proudly display on their website.

I am left with 3 and a half weeks of this useless service, month end couldn't come any sooner, as I stated earlier, no one from AH or critical care has contacted me to sort my problem out today....

Please. do me a favour, take walk down to your accounts dept and klap someone .... then read this.

I have an INVOICE for R797 - but have been debited for R897 two months in a row.
The accounts contend it has to do with a 10 mbps line upgrade - that 1. I didnt ask for 2. I dont have 3. I was never invoiced for.

I have mailed the accounts in reply from the CP, but please, lets not get into a tennis match on this.

While we may see throughput vary according to demand, we're generally seeing consistent latency on the network. I also wouldn't expect to see variance that high.

I think we'll need to troubleshoot further here, becuase I don't think we're seeing this in general at the moment :(

Anyone have a clue how the rest of the AH accounts are performing. Are capped and normal uncapped accounts performing at full speed after hours and if so could this be a method of balancing traffic?
