Do these chaps actually know what they are doing, continual issues on their network, and very slow to fix, or even acknowledge issues. Other ISP's seem to have far less issues, or is this an illusion, all ISP's are equally crap?

I think it is important to bear in the mind that the issues that you are experiencing are not always experienced by every other user. So whilst some users are currently having issues with Youtube in particular, our bandwidth and performance are running quite well at the moment.

I am by no means saying things are perfect, but to imply that we have no idea what we are doing is not entirely fair.

8mbps business uncapped over here, can confirm that Youtube is still crawling along at ~450Kbps (240p), a colleague of mine also has an AH business uncapped account and reports similarly poor performance on Youtube. I'm strongly considering digging out my 90's vintage CRT as it's better optimized for 240p viewing.

Well this forum is full of people with similar issues, we post test results, tracerts, etc, and the issues continue, speeds are way below what they should be, all we get is SOON, and promises that things will improve. Unfortunately things do not improve.

You need to stop being so defensive. Yesterday already you promised it would be done "soon", and in the next few hours.
That didn't happen. Now they did more changes and it will be better "soon".

Take the time to realize that you are talking to paying customers, and telling them that it's everything is fine before only some user are having an issue doesn't make those with the issue feel better at all. I've cancelled my AH 20MB business account this morning because of this continual stuff up, and if I didn't do that your attitude would have made me cancel it immediately.

It looks like the problem is with the peering between the Google Cache servers and the MTN network, we are working with MTN to make the necessary changes implemented now.

aaah, yes, MTN, who would of thought.....Since joining them, your service has been really declining, just need to wait 2 months before I can leave and afford better ADSL....

I highlighted this youtube issue around last week Tuesday and two other forumites were having the same problem at the time, it's been over/nearly a week and it's the same as it was then if not maybe a bit worse......

Okay, hold on. So yet again, Telkom was blamed on my side. 2nd call logged last night for Telkom, and now we hear that there is a problem yet again.

Umm, AH, there might be a problem with the debit order this month. You will have access to the funds, but think you deserve only 1/3rd of the payment. Oh hold on, lets make that less. And I am still waiting for the e-mails that would have helped with my internet last night. You are just like MTN, eMpTyNetwork!

YouTube is still buffering on this end, 'stats for nerds' reports 512kbps on a 20mbps line

Can't even stream 240p video at the moment, speedtest shows speeds of 18mbps.... sigh

This is such a stupid little issue... And it is so very frustrating! I could barely stream 240p last night without waiting for ten minutes for buffering.

I ended up using a certain tool to download the video and watch it that way... :wtf:

PS: On the bright side, the Team says performance will start picking up for Youtube.

Ja, just imagine watching porn on youtube. Buffering all the time. Shall we give you more time to fix the experience that we are lacking?

In this case, only Youtube is being affected, any other speed or latency issues would still be indicative of a line or Exchange issue.

Why does it work 100% with another ISP on the same line and exhange? Every single time?

@AfriGenie, what is the local IP address for the YouTube CDN? Can't we insert that into our hosts file to force it to local?

It is an issue with our Accounts, it looks like each major provider has there own caching service with Google, either ours is acting up, or the routing to it is off.

I am not sure if that would work, but it would be great if you wouldn't mind trying. I am going to see if I can find the right IPs.
