So ............. heres my little speed experiment.
No idea what it is - just know its got more seeders than a farm.

Started it Friday night at around 8pm. It now Monday 6.30 AM ...

In 58 odd hours I have managed a whole 1 gig.
AH Sloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow.PNG

Afrihost ... you REALLY have a problem.

Also, please see all the data ALREADY posted. Please dont ask me to test the test to test testicles .....

And finally - if you are such a big shot ISP, how about getting someone to monitor these pages over the weekend?

My speeds seems to be stable since yesterday midday. But going by all the people still having trouble here, they're still having problems. And we are still waiting for any kind of response from Afrihost.

Things are better this morning. International is excellent.

I really hope the diabolical last week is behind me. Could barely stream anything.

Latency still all over the place this morning, and not a single word from Afrihost?

3G just died again,

Now tell me, if your p2p torrents are crippled and mine is running at fullspeed all the time, what do you make of that?

You still saying its a ISP fault?

I noticed all my lines were changed back to Fast Path, When Telkom First implemented ASSIA all my lines changed to Interleaved.
Maybe Telkom realised Fast Path was a better option :D

Fast path? More like trimming the edges by downgrading a few :( :erm:

Morning Guys!

I'm sure you guys noticed the mishap on Saturday, basically two of the highly important servers that regulates the bandwidth management suffered an emergency shutdown, this caused all new sessions from about 04h40 on Saturday to be assigned to fallback bandwidth which caused the slow speeds for those new sessions. The issue was resolved in a few hours, but our system had to start working through all new active sessions, and disconnect them to ensure that the users were re-assigned to the correct bandwidth group. This happened again on Sunday evening, but this was resolved within a hour.

If you are still seeing slower than normal throughput, powering down your ADSL modem for 30 seconds, then powering it on again should get you running at full speed again.

Needless to say I am really sorry guys, this is definitely not a cool thing to have happen, and we're taking extremely thorough changes to make sure this does not happen again.

If you are still seeing performance that is not up to scratch please let me know!

@afriman

How is the new ASSIA system from telkom working out for you guys?

At this point I'm still slightly ambivalent towards the new DSMS / ASSIA system. It is okay when it works fine, but I've had too many users suddenly having perfectly usable 40 / 20 /10 Mbps lines dropped to two thirds of the line speed or even half of the line speed because some arbitrary stats haven't been met. And getting those syncs reset to the original speeds is a nightmare.

this problem started on friday not ons saterday why was there no notice on your website

Good afternoon

Would you kindly run that traceroute using the Afrihost account and take a screen shot of that traceroute and send back to us.

We will then troubleshoot further.

Have a great day and please let me know if I can help with anything else!

I honestly didnt experience anything...

It looks like only users that started a new authenticated sessions between 04h30 and about 10h00 on Saturday morning would have seen the reduced throughput, if your modem authenticated before then or after that period, you would have run at full speed.
