At 6pm on the dot, speeds took a nose dive. Anyone else?

Switch to CW, get full line speed on p2p, could stream at 720p on YouTube (1st time in a VERY long time) and 720p on other streaming sites.

Will most probably be told the port got reset when I switched accounts.

Packetloss on CS GO every night iv played between 7 and 11pm sigh. I can usually tolerate a slight lag when someone else is online but during that time packetloss shoots up to 30-50% if anyone uses even a small amount of bandwith.

I was told to be patient by support .... 10 days have passed ...

In retrospect .... may as well sync the line back at 4 megs.... its cr@p at 3 and 4 so may as well take the higher line speed.

Every morning around 8:30am something is interrupted. Streaming services effectively stop working.

Is it the ISP?

Switched to Web Africa:
Download Speed: 2988 kbps (373.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 532 kbps (66.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 25 ms

Streaming audio shows buffering on a simple audio stream, so not usable.

Streaming audio also buffering.

This happens predictably, as if some maintenance is being done every day. But by who? Telkom or AH? The fact that both ISP's seem to collapse at the same time indicates Telkom maintenance. Surely not congestion on a Sunday morning - most businesses are closed.

I'm still waiting for some sort of idea when I will have internet again....no point having a dead line and paying for it.

Day 6, no connection, I have been forced to go outside and spend time with other humans, it is unpleasant at best, the sunlight hurts my eyes too.

EDIT: Also MTN Data is slower than dial up where I live, with plenty of timeouts, so it seems I just wasted loads of money just so I could be able to function as a business. FAIL.

Whatever is happening on your exchange, it appears it is still down from the last updates I received. AfriGenie is doing most of the followups though, but we're all concerned that this seems to be an extended downtime.

So ya, now with load shedding being at stage 2, my speeds are very nice today. I have noticed that when load shedding occurs, my speeds are better than when there isn't load shedding.
Tell me again how ALL the issues are due to my exchange?
Load shedding = less people using the network = less contention on the network = better speeds
Or am I missing something?

Remember that loadshedding will also affect users in your local area. If you are on a congested exchange but are the only bright spark that invested in a UPS for your router, you'll probably have the local exchange all to yourself.

6pm is a pretty strange time, we usually see contention hit at around 8pm, though last night (in the South) we saw demand rise just after 7pm and die away significantly before 8pm, which is pretty off, but still sort of around the time we expect demand (and contention for bandwidth) to rise.

We can expect some lag when we're in the peak contention time. However, we've tested CS GO extensively for several hours on shaped and unshaped accounts and we're definitely seeing good performance in general (with with Teamspeak running)

What we do find is that if anyone has a torrent client open, eve if it's paused or has no active downloads, it messes up the traffic signatures and causes problems. So best to close uTorrent/Vuze whichever client you use completely before you game.

This doesn't seem to be a sync profile issue, it definitely would not affect a traceroute that poorly. Also concerned that one of your first hop results comes in at 12ms, which is higher than I would expect even for wireless.

Did you run this with absolutely nothing going on in the background?

It depends on your local area, but your pings seem mostly OK. Remember that residential areas will have different patterns of usage to industrial or business areas. So it could well be that everyone wakes up and hit their emails or the kids go on YouTube and there is a spike at 8:30. From a general network perspective we don't usually see that on a Sunday, but it would depend on your area.

We alway try to do any sort of maintenance at the leat busy times, usually after 10 or 11pm. Telkom usually do their during work hours for scheduled maintenance, but also after hours for major maintenance that can potentially take their network down.

I said in an earlier post there was not any load shedding in my town whatsoever. So I was not the only one using my exchange.

Is there any way to find out what work is being done on the Clareinch exchange? I feel like I'm sitting in the dark here, I can't function a business like this, there must be some sort of info that you or telkom can give to customers, or someone I can phone myself, there have been several complaints on our neighborhood facebook group about it being slow but nobody said they have zero connection, my connection has been off since Sunday the 3rd, that is now 8 days, I can't believe that it could take 8 days to do maintenance on only one section of the exchange? It is impossible that there is absolutely no information to give to me the customer. If this carries on I will have to cancel both afrihost and telkom and find an alternate method to get online.

I'm afraid not :(
From what I can see, it's planned maintenance - which is as far as the description goes. I'm sure it'll be fixed sooner rather than later though.

Yes

This problem has been with me for the past month or so, and there is a one heap of comms going back and forth.

I realise its probably a Telkom issue, but it has simply not been resolved and has been blamed on everything from the Titanic to the exchange.

It wasnt like this a month or two back and I am at pains to point out that the tracert looks like this at all hours of the day.

Please keep logging faults with Telkom till they sort it out - it is all we can hope for, but changing the line sync speed doesnt help.

We'll definitely keep pushing from our side until the issue is resolved and the line and connection is running as it should!
