Woke up this morning and my connection won't work. It's authenticating but it just doesn't connect. Had to switch to a backup 1gb web africa account.

That's not cool at all. Can you PM me your username and I'll look into this ASAP :(

:(

Are you seeing consistently slow performance? Or does it vary depending on the time of day?

I don't really have time to do updates during the day, but the speed of Windows 10 updates is always poor. I had to leave my machines downloading all of last night, and eventually I got the latest build of Windows 10 downloaded. The odd thing is normal downloads seem to be 100%. We have managed to download a lot this month, 25% more than normal months, but this is also due to a lot of large game releases this month. latency on speed tests especially locally is also very high, between 100-200ms, where this used to be 10-15ms.

Good morning all, around 2am this morning my international downloads stopped, no speed at all, local seems to work fine, changed the dns to google as per afrihost webpage....any idea guys?

EDIT - nevermind it's back, yay

Morning!

Obviously you won't be able to test now, but do you know if it was just your international downloads or if your international throughput dropped out completely?

It was just the download speed, i could access non local sites....The speed came to a halt, none of the usenet servers were connecting but it's back now, so it's cool...

Still very strange! Definitely should not have happened in the first place, if it does happen again, please give us a shout!

@Afriguy - tickets: BSY-862-28919 / IPW-284-70142 - playing Destiny on the PS4 is absolute rubbish since 8am this morning. Watching Youtube streaming buffers and connecting to VPN times out. This is on a 10mbps Business Uncapped connection and has been happening and and off for the last 2 weeks.

Speed test result is shocking:

Uploading this Youtube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_TgzaZnnvo) showing you the disconnects is currently taking 5 hours (!) for a 110MB file. Your Critical Care team does not work weekends and I have to wait till tomorrow. Your generous 1MB Uncapped account actually performed worse than the Business Uncapped account.

IMG_0899.jpg

Phoning your technical support team is a true PITA when you are treated like an idiot:
- We reset the port
- Turn the modem off and on (but make sure that you wait 30 seconds)
- Is this on Windows?
- Have you changed your DNS to Google? Yes you did? Oh, change it to ours!
- Try and change your DNS to Google!
- My VPN issue 26/27 May was explained with a "Our engineers have investigated further and noticed the problem was related to DNS. " - no clue why DNS would affect a VPN IP-to-IP connection?

In short: IT'S YOU.

But yeah definitely feeling slower than it should be. YT is slower weather it's on AfriDns or google, my minecraft connection is reporting a ping of 300ms vs the 160 from IS / Mweb things like chunkloading lags behind on Afrihost but flys on other providers.

Also any idea how to do a pathping now since telkom has stopped responding on the second hop it no longer works.

Feedback from Afrihost - I am

Everything looks fine with your account but I do notice the disconnections. Please can you remove any filters and connected the router up directly to the wall. Please monitor the line for a few hours after you have removed the filter. I also noticed there are port errors on the line, telkom would have to recreate the ports on the line as we do not manage this line of yours.

Please ensure that your PS4 is connected via LAN/Ethernet cable as wifi signal can be interrupted by many things and this can cause your connection on the PS4 to dip.

And off I go to have Telkom re-create the port again, just so that I can tell Afrihost that I did this so that I can then change my DNS settings again. For what it's worth, I could not upload my 100MB Youtube video to show the disconnects, as it took more than 4 hours to upload (by that time the PS4 had suspended). So now I am going for another run - right now uploading at 80KB/sec - what a joke on a 10mbps business account.

Someone enlighten me: How can "port errors" occur within 24 hours (i.e. yesterday everything functioned perfectly fine the majority of the day and from this morning 8am - boom, can't do anything with consistency).

FWIW - the video below is a screenshare of about 1 hour's worth of errors. I think any gamer can feel my frustration (never mind the lag once you actually get onto a map / mission)

Agreed that 100MB should not take 4 hours, but a 10Mbps ADSL line you have 1Mbps upload. That is ~120KB/s without overheads. After overheads it should be ~100KB/s, but if you download even slightly, this will drop. You need upload for download and vice versa. 80KB/s upload sounds about right.

I am also having issues with latency/poor throughput (on the capped thread).

Agreed - during the upload was no other internet activity and as such I expected around 4MB/minute upload - i.e. 100MB should be done in less than 30 minutes and not take more than 4 hours. The PS4 suspends after 4 hours and at that time it had hardly uploaded 6MB (!!!). I used my 3G connection now and uploaded in about 30min.
