Eish the steam she is dead.

Sat like this for about 10 minutes before starting :wtf:

That sucks. Friday was pretty quiet, and my reports show weekend latency was pretty good, but demand was still consistent throughout. We should see good Steam performance on the new POC network -hopefully you've signed up to test and give feedback for us on that. So far, looks good.

What YouTube streaming? You can access YouTube?

Had to reset my router 3 times since 16h30. Line just drops, then can't authenticate at all.

That's horrible. I've been testing on the new POC networks this weekend, so I did not log in with my normal account. reports show that latency has been good, but we've been seeing poor throughput for a few days now, as well as some packet loss when demand is very high :(

Afriguys, have been noticing a definite improvement with latency, at last! Can actually do some stuff now without getting major packet loss and lag spikes.

OH and btw I just signed up an office this week with your business 10Mbps package... :D You can thank me later.

Glad to hear things are better. Once we have users on the POC networks, I think all round experience will be really good again.

WTF. I cannot stand this any longer. Afrihost had better get their sh*t together now. Absolutely ridiculous.
Could barely get to the Speedtest.net site.

The latency on your second hop looks to me like a Telkom issue or congestion. From the trace you posted afterwards, it's hard to say, but we definitely can't influence latency at the 2nd hop (usually the BRAS, BNG). It's possible that latency improves momentarily when the port is reset and then degrades - we see this often with congested exchanges :(

Hope you don't mind me chipping in here.
What if the isp is managing the line?

I think it's important to remember that ISP management makes no physical changes to the line, routing, infrastructure at all. It is strictly a billing management change, and allows us access to first line support tools for the line.

I guess still NO improvement?

There has been some improvement on the current network in terms of latency. When we move clients over to the POC networks (hopefully in the next few days - I should have more info on that shortly) we expect to see improvements in throughput and packet loss that some are experiencing.

The guys in support definitely know about the POC networks, we've been sending our mailers and we had a team meeting on Friday to explain in detail. Sounds like this may have been a misunderstanding or failure to communicate on our side.

I'm happy to give you any updates you need on the POC networks with the info I have.

Not much of an improvement here, latency already at 200ms this morning to local sites....

Looks like latency is rising in the East, we've seen this over the last while. Our guys are trying to get this under control. However, when we have some traffic moved over to the POC networks, this should definitely improve :(

@ AfriMan,

When is this testing going to happen my patience is wearing out with AH. It is now week 4 of issues and still it AH is MIA on the details with the testing and moving to the new POC setup.

I cannot get anything done, have not used my account for 2 weeks now and WebAfrica accounts is not much better.

So when is this going to happen?

Didn't Gian say two weeks for the POC's to go live, I'm sure two weeks have passed now....

I think it's 2 weeks sometime this week according to his last post. Can't be much longer now, our guys have been slaving to get things ready.

Oh dear. My 20meg VDSL line went from super fast this morning, to where I cannot even stream a 480p video on IMDB. Extremely slow :(

Really sorry about this :( We are seeing spikes in demand in the South at the moment, our guys are working on it.
