both barely able to complete and you say you have engineers looking at this?

Finally got one ping test:
Download Speed: 267 kbps (33.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 336 kbps (42 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 53 ms

4Mbps line and I am left with this?

Tried with Afrigreen... same issues...

Definitely looking pretty horrible there. It's weird that you get the same results on both Afrihost and AfriGreen. Have you tried with any other ISP account? :(

FYI - Had same issue - East region.
Started midnight Sunday - called AH Monday morning, logged Telkom fault.

By 10h00 Monday - all good again ...

Dont know if this helps any?

There was a problem over the long weekend, but it should be resolved now. This was on AfriGreen though, regular Afrihost should have been fine :(

I am an Afrihost business account user, I have recommended you to many a friend and will continue to do so, just love the speed. Now the problem is the 3rd party in the triangle, jip, Telkom. Eish, waited a month for a Telkom technician to arrive, after numerous logs and calls, checked out the setup in the home, ouch the piano is heavy (had to move it so that he can get to the line connector), added test equipment to line and disappeared for 1.5 hours. When he got back he said, SORRY nope, he cant fix it, now he hands it over to the cable guys, hmmm, how long is that going to take.

In the meantime my ADSL is connecting at various speeds 24/7, going bonkers. Googled and these two articles sums up my problems.

So, now I leave the line off hook, dunno what that will cause in the long run, but my line now sync @ 4mbit again (did so the past 8 years, just 6 weeks ago started acting up) and stays connected, still quite a bit of errors at times.

And then the Telkom technician spin me that I am not suppose to connect @ 4mbit with the distance I am from the exchange. Eish. Whish this gets sorted soon.

Thanks for this entertaining post - really enjoyed reading it, except for the obviously horrible parts :)

Sounds like there could be a problem with the POTS filter if leaving the phone off the hook changes the performance. Either that or the router itself is seeing some kind of frequency interference. We'd need to try out a few combinations to see if we can eliminate the problem.

Is your line managed by Afrihost?

Hey Afripeeps

Afrifella here, new on MyBB, but NOT new at Afrihost. :)

I'm here to add my 2 cents, share knowledge and help out where I can. I'm looking forward to jumping in, let's keep it clean, friendly and fun! :)

Hi

Yes my line is Afrihost managed and your guys did escalate it to Telkom (thanks), I saw that it was down @ 11:30am to 13:20 and that there were a reduced noise ratio after it came back on (see graph below), hope it stays like this. BTW, I just love the application DSLstats, tells you a lot of what is going on with the line. I will now monitor and report back, there were previous occasions where it was fine for 24 to 48 hours just to fall back on a noisy line.

Awesome! Please let us know how it goes!

Gonna change my nick to Afriuser just to fit in :p

FTP speeds cut in half since yesterday on a business account...stay with AH through all the BS and get slapped for it. NICE AH.

I really don't understand how you guys operate. You ask us to help test the POC network and when we post issues/slowness/etc you tell ask us to test with another ISP... not sure what the point of testing with another ISP is going to solve, but when we post the results of the other ISPs your first response is "we will investigate" which never gets a follow up response or resolution, in this type of support level is very poor. Why don't you guys investigate and follow up with a proper reason for the poor network speeds?

We haven't limited an FTP services on either network for the moment. Are any other services performing poorly?

It's important to know if a service performs poorly on multiple networks or works. When we confirm that then we absolutely do investigate, and generally, when there is a large amount of people making that enquiry we do post a general update.

sure youtube hasnt been able to play @ 720p without buffering for the past two or so months. Don't act like you guys don't know any of this. Meantime we still paying full price for a sub par service. I'm getting sick of this.

For the last few days since my ping post it's always around 20:30 and 12:00 where both AH and AfriGreen hits with the latency issues...

It could be a that you're not getting full throughput for either service. Have you compared with an AfriGreen account?

This is very unlikely. Remember that AfriGreen and Afrihost use discreet networks, there is literally no point of intersection between the two networks so it's very unlikely that performance will be similar, which could point to the line being the common factor. That's why it's useful to replicate on as many ISP networks to confirm.
