I think my P2P is getting shaped... or something.

Been a while now. After 7 or so in the mornings, it goes from full speed slower to about 1/4 of line speed, and then like a Swiss clockwork, after 17:00, it shoots up to full speed again.

The free 1GB goes flat out full line speed on torrents en nzb, no matter what time of the day when I checked it out.

Edit: And now everything is dying.

Line syncs at 4Mbps, and I am on the 2Mbps Business uncapped. International speed is especially very bad but local is half broken as well

Afriman, please explain this:

I rebooted and am getting this:
View attachment 87571

But.........
View attachment 87575

And then I got this in an email just now:
View attachment 87577

The line was originally 10Mb, then degraded to crap, then synced down to 6Mb.
Or am I missing something here?

Can I now change to the 10Mb Business Uncapped package at no extra monthly fee as it says in the email?

The mail is basically saying that Telkom have now set you onto the new DSL3 product. If you were on Fastest DSL (4 up to 10Mbps - which includes any sync inbetween) they consider it an upgrade. So in some cases clients who only had 4Mbps are getting 10mbps - but in many cases clients at just over 4Mbps are pretty much on the same speeds they were with no infrastructure change for an improvement.

However, what it does mean is that you can opt to now downgrade to DSL 2 for a saving on line rental or bundle rates. However, if you want to stay on 6Mbps - you'll need to stay on DSL3 - which essentially means your products will be unchanged for the moment.

We'll be reviewing our Uncapped products as soon as the upgrades settle :)

Aha! Thanks for the info.
I'll stay on the 6Mb for now, thanks.

Now, on to why the speeds have been sucking lately?
3158063813.png

This is not what a 6Mb unshaped line should be like, especially seeing as I got that email yesterday bragging about how my line speed is now supposedly faster..... It was fine for a few hours last night, then it went to hell again.

I know you guys are trying your best to let things run smoothly and are always putting pressure on Hellscum to actually get off their asses and fix stuff, but this is getting annoying now.

If I am paying almost R800pm for a 6Mb unshaped unmetered unthrottled Business line, I expect 6Mb, not 1.2Mb or 1.6Mb.

yeah, not really sure why I'm paying for a business account

This isnt an AH issue, but rather a Telkom one (But you probably already know that :D ). Try phoning your local branch as opposed to the call centre - it seems to speed things up a bit.

Did your line get upgraded? If so, try forcing a syncrate that you had previously - it might be more stable :)

Make sure Protocol Prioritisation is off :) Also - if everything is slow - it might be an issue with your area? Try chatting to your neighbours and asking whether their interwebz are running as usual

Local is now also joining the slow-like-a-snail speed. It is weird, nothing else is downloading atm, and when looking at BitMeter while doing the speed tests, it also fluctuates between 30KB/s en 70KB/s. Wireless off on the Billion.

Hi Afriman

I am on a live chat with Eugene K and it looks like he went to sleep :p

Can you check out the following ticket and advise what would cause such bad crc errors and how I can fix it. Im getting over 65000 upstream crc errors and this morning I had over 45000 crc downstream errors

EKL-581-44061

Thanks

EDIT: NVM he is awake still but still any advise :)

Hi Afriman

Are the business accounts unshaped and un-throttled ? no limits ? open gates? (when there are no telkom line issues)

Tested before 08:00 this morning, full speed.
Tested it now, so sloooooow I can almost hear a dial-up modem.

Download Speed: 227 kbps (28.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 315 kbps (39.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 48 ms

p2p running great this morning, but nntp crawling... :(

Nice to know it isn't just me having issues on the business account :/

What I've noticed over the last 2 days is the speeds are starting to crawl during the day but they are back to fine in the evenings. I had a NNTP download going earlier and it was getting 400KB/s, then it turned 8 and now my line is dying.

Am on a 4meg uncapped unshaped and this is what I'm currently getting:

@AfriMan - Can you please assist with this as my internet is slowly becoming unusable during the day :/
