I think the Cape Town MTN IPC went down. I noticed the routing changed this morning:

Original:
local -> 105-236-5-193-esr-lo.mtnbusiness.co.za -> ipc-recieve-tb-2a.mtnbusiness.net (41.181.54.86)

Now
local -> 105-236-5-193-esr-lo.mtnbusiness.co.za -> ipc-recieve-jh-4a.za.mtnbusiness.net (41.181.178.5)

I might be wrong.

I'm shutting down my PC. Was supposed to render support on a client site. 3G to the rescue, which is non existent nor reliable where I stay.

They just posted on their twitter.

@Afrihost
An IPC outage in South (Cape) region may cause slow or no DSL connectivity. We're working on this urgently & apologise for the inconvenience

But I'm still concerned as why does the issue only happen during Business hours? And was it the same issue yesterday then?

On their network status:

High Impact
Opened: 09:05 Thu, December 12, 2013
We are currently experiencing an IPC outage in the Southern (Cape) Region, affecting DSL connectivity in Cape Town and other areas routing via this IPC (such as Port Elizabeth). Our network engineers are currently investigating this urgently to restore services to normal levels. Affected clients may experience no connectivity or slow DSL during the outage. We sincerely apologise to affected clients.

Just checked NNTP on my side as well. Down to 40/50kbps on my 4mb line

Wow so they just decide to shape business accounts even though they kept telling us they will never do it.

Afriman, Whats up?

We'll I'm based in Mpumalanga, so it's really not an infrastructure problem for me.
More like a quality of service issue and or capacity issue on the ISP's side.
I would like to see some stats from Afrihost if I am to stay on.

I knew something was up as I was getting absolutely full speed on my account since I signed up.
This is the first and only time in that 8 month period I experienced any issues!

It looks like we're having a problem on our Cape (South) IPC. We're getting mixed reports of no or very slow connectivity - we're still investigating with MTN to isolate the problem. Any regions routing through the South could be affected at the moment.

Will update more info as I get it :(

Well Ive had great service since going business and this hopefully gets sorted soon. Would the JHB peeps be under strain from this as well?

Get someone to turn it off and on again. Always does the trick :whistling:

International is definitely poked. Local seems fine-ish.

Hey guys

Our IPC in Cape Town is seeing some issues at the moment, our team are aware of this and investigating. I'll have more updates as soon as they're available :)

Our DSL services in the South should be restored, let's give it a few more mins to normalise back up to 100% :)
Thanks for everyones patience!

Hi Afriguy

3 days ago i started getting huge speed problems. First off i've tried a telkom account aswell and the same story - So the reason for me contacting you is a last resort. Telkom sent a techie switched ports everything he says he cant see that there is a problem on the line.

The strange thing is this only happens during the day - I asked if the exchange might be congested and he said there is no way since it is a fairly new exchange and is very low populated.

Ok here are the details - I have a 10mb dsl line and I use a afrihost 10mb business uncapped account.

First ping test www.pingtest.net:

2nd test:

as you can see the jitter and packetloss jumps around.

1st speed test:

2nd:

These test show good results but 10 min prior of typing this I did not even receive 1 mb down. So its very jumpy.

My line stats:
Downstream Upstream
Line Coding(Trellis): On On
SNR Margin (dB): 205 109
Attenuation (dB): 90 54
Output Power (dBm): 0 101
Attainable Rate (Kbps): 27192 1164
Rate (Kbps): 10015 1019
D (interleaver depth): 1 1
Delay (msec): 0.19 0.24

HEC Errors: 0 0
OCD Errors: 0 0
LCD Errors: 0 0

Total ES: 0 0

Please let me know if you can see a problem on your side .. or if you are aware of national infrastructure that might be causing this. And no im not in CPT.

Thanks

Keep us posted on how things go.
Has your pending fault been sorted out yet?

I have not seen or heard from anyone at Telkom from them since this whole issue was first reported...
And then they have the audacity to say they have contacted me and the issue is resolved, blah blah blah.

Speeds are better now though:

Edited to add:

All of a sudden it is better, but still not "100% Realtime Speed":
