I have given up moaning about crap speeds and connections dropping for hours on end.
No use in opening ticket after ticket until Hellscum gets off their lazy asses and actually does some work for a change like fixing the line issues at our place that i have been moaning about since March 2013.....

Hopefully after the the whole Xmas and New Year hooha has died down, then maybe, just maybe, some kind soul will fix the damned thing instead of closing tickets and telling Afrihost that the issue is resolved.

And yes, I have moaned directly to Hellscum as well, with no positive results.

And @AfriPeople
It's been happening more often lately that the latency just shoots through the roof and speeds suffer.
Sometimes after restarting the router it's better but sometimes not.

After restarting the router

Last Result:
Download Speed: 3431 kbps (428.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 287 kbps (35.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 54 ms

After restarting the router again

Last Result:
Download Speed: 2403 kbps (300.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 376 kbps (47 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 305 ms
28/12/2013 18:40:12

After restarting again

Last Result:
Download Speed: 2951 kbps (368.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 380 kbps (47.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 58 ms

Gonna try to organize another router somewhere to test.

Yup - definitely a connection issue. See hop 2 on the tracerts - that shouldn't be more than 15ms

Looking at your tools results, it seems the local is going international via their routing.

Seen and fixed, thanks! Doesn't seem like anything is wrong :/ International is very slow though - have you contacted Afrihost support yet?

Could be wrong

Correct. But I have been having this issue for over 9 months now, and Telkom has not done anything about the line issue.
If by the end of January this issue is not resolved, I will cancel my Afrihost account.

I cannot carry on being given promises and f-all gets done about it.
Hellscum techs have continuously lied to Afrihost to say they have contacted me (bull****....) and have checked the line coming into the house (more bull****) and say there is no problem.

The next time I see a Hellscum tech at the Telkom manhole outside our property, he will be getting sworn at from a dizzy height.
I have had it with their total incompetence regarding a simple line fault that has been giving hassles for over 9 months, and their constant lies saying they have fixed it.

I know it is not Afrihost's fault, but even with them "putting pressure" on Telkom to fix the problem, nothing has been done about said problem.

Afrihost rocks, Hellscum on the other hand can take a long walk off a short pier.

Flipping hell, man, I would hate to be in your situation. Hmmm... I don't know if you have tried this (I've probably recommended like 8 times), but try unplugging EVERYTHING connected to your phone line (except your router of course). This includes phones, faxes, alarms, automatic phone dog feeders - anything and everything. It's possible that even with a filter - there is still interference on the line.

Also - I know you have probably tried this - but use Google DNS, try and switch off wifi and use Ethernet to test (wifi sometimes breaks routers) - and try swooping out your router :)

Good Luck, and I can only imagine how annoying this must be.

Z

I'll try that tomorrow, thanks Zertop:)

So nice from a 6Mb Business Uncapped line, right?

Tried what Zertop suggested, same results. The only thing I have not done is swop the router as I do not have another one.

And the line has been very wonky the whole day. Random disconnects for hours on end, many many reboots, and the usual crap.

I see you are syncing at 8Mbps - do all your phones have POTS filters on them?

EDIT: Those speeds are quite bad - try live chat

Interesting, did a speed test now and it's showing my location as Cpt instead of Durbs, possibly I'm being re-routed. I did the speedtest because it was feeling a bit snappier all of a sudden.

Durban. Yah, looks like someone is fiddling for me, much better results though still low.
