Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

They should can the 2 for 1 capped giveaway.

I don't believe that double data or any promotions we've run have significantly impacted our capacity. We saw the demand start to increase from the time lines were upgraded and it's been consistent since then. I've never generally seen capped pricing affect overall network usage as much as drops in Uncapped pricing or line upgrades.

I'd post a speed test from PE -> CT, but I can't even complete one, on my business account, during business hours.. joy. Web Africa's promotion is looking pretty tempting for the interim.

The degradation of my Business Uncapped service commenced almost to the day that the double your cap freebie was announced. Is that just a coincidence? Prior to last month I have had a relatively hassle free nine months on the service. If it was just a gradual depletion of capacity over time, your arguments would be more understandable. But this thing hit like an "event" and the only "event" at the time was the new double your cap promotion. And if you were already having capacity constraints before the promotion, why would you even dream of going ahead with it? Does the double your cap bandwidth travel on some other magical route? I'm pretty certain it all has to go through the very same bottleneck as our business accounts.

A good line can never just last forever - lines degrade, exchanges become congested and there are many factors that could come into this.

That is utter nonsense, and you know it. Look at all the results of tests that you keep asking for.... it has been proven time and time again.... THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY LINE.... amazing how it performs FLAWLESSLY on ANY OTHER ISP????
FYI, Telkom has recently upgraded certain cards in their exchanges... before I was syncing at 10012kbps with NO ISSUES for over a year. Now the line syncs at 10236kbps and all of a sudden my attenuation is a bit high... Funny how the AH line test in the CZ claims that my line is excellent (40db)????

By your own logic on my line tests and your claim of congestion, AH's giveaways HAVE impacted on capacity - more users = more bandwidth usage = more congestion :erm:

I don't honestly believe that is the case, we've seen demand escalate consistently since upgrades started being implemented and the biggest growth is for 1Mbps (2Mbps) and 2Mbps (4Mbps) where clients are pulling more bandwidth than ever - cos there is just so much more you can do.

With a capped increase, this does not impact download or user behaviour. They just have more cap to get through but their capacity to use that cap remains the same - i.e. they download at the same rate. The fact that it happened the same day is coincidental, unless everyone used all their data up in the same day, ie over a faster rate of time.

I'm honestly confused here, because the PM's you sent me was to be moved to another exchange or port on the exchange and you've suggested the same in your post. Are we distinguishing the line from the exchange port infrastructure - because ultimately both are subject to degradation like any electronic equipment - especially in some weather conditions.

So many promises ... so many intentions ... how do these actually help affected clients at the moment ?

I promise to pay Afrihost what I can as I am also waiting for my financial capacity to be increased and until these finances come online I promise to do the best I can to ensure others depending on my payments are not negatively impacted too much and I can ensure you that despite my overspending on items, that this has nothing to do with my current situation, and Afrihost will continue to have intermittent payment interruptions during this time. I can assure you that despite a fraction of the amount owning to Afrihost being actually paid to them by me, I am ensuring that it is the best fraction that they will receive given the current situation and I also remind Afrihost that many, many others will pay them what they owe them without any problems, so it all should be just fine with Afrihost and not be of any real inconvenience, this small percentage I am of impacted payment.

Legend post. LMAO.

Sorry that you're getting such poor results. If you are able to test with another ISP, please do let us know. Will tell us if this is a network issue -which it could well be at this point :(

As I said in a previous post, unless people started downloading double what they had previously over the same rate of time, there would be no significant impact from raising data caps, and we obviously did a lot of homework and forecasting before we implemented this. We haven't seen any increase since the change, except for the steady increase we've seen since late last year resulting from line upgrades.

Post of the week.

Okay? So you're saying people paying by the gigabyte who have had their caps doubled are not going to take advantage of that and will still use the same number of gigabytes as before? Amazing.

Hilarious!

But I wont rule out Afrihost making amends. When I had severe packet loss for 3 weeks in July last year, they gave me a 3 month free upgrade from 4Mb/s to 8Mb/s. And when things are working as they should, these packages still cut the mustard. So not adjusting my set quite yet... just hoping normal service resumes asap.

On that note, my calls went unanswered for almost a month, then I was told that there were no ports available. This is not true at all.... the Telkom technician was here on Friday, and he confirmed that there are more than enough ports available at my exchange. Your point of degradation doesn't hold water either, as my house, line and infrastructure is ALL NEW. All parts of Sunningdale, Milnerton, Table View, etc. have been fully upgraded to the new MSAN's, replacing the old SDC's. The Telkom tech also confirmed that the cards that we port into have been fully upgraded. It is not inconceivable that one of these is faulty, these things do happen. My point is, that if it were an infrastructure/card/port/congestion problem, you would see that in ALL the tests and traces I have done. Furthermore, you would also notice the drops in ALL ISP tests I have done, not just the AH accounts. It is quite strange to me that you are claiming that it is congestion/degradation, whereas you have also claimed that it an IPC problem. This shouldn't be at all.... THIS IS A BUSINESS ACCOUNT, yet it is out-performed by AH's own 1GB FREE, and capped offerings. Business accounts should ALWAYS be priority, above any other offering - WE PAY FOR IT!

Yeah... I can't believe that HAHAHAHA.... apparently, having more NEW users on the network ALSO doesn't affect the total amount of bandwidth available either. Somehow me thinks someone has talked himself into a circle.... HAHAHAHAHA

They will most likely, but chances are that they are not going to alter their downloading patterns significantly enough to change overall impact on the network. If I gave you two ice creams instead of one, you can't eat them any faster - and the premise here is that in real time this did not impact real time demand - not overall data consumption.

Yes, but if you keep giving out ice-creams you will eventually run out.

There is definitely conflicting information in your statement which I don't understand, to be honest.

You're saying that the infrastructure is not at fault and that the line and exchange is not in question - but the performance on all ISPs is degraded, not just Afrihost. So what exactly are you saying is the problem?

I haven't said that it's an IPC related problem in your specific case, because from the information I received from you, this was a problem on the exchange port and you were asking to be moved.

Sorry if I am not getting this, but I'm finding this pretty confusing :(
