I dunno if I would jump to a line issue - pings look OK. Looks like slow throughput, but otherwise latency is fine. I'm guessing this started to ease off after about 10 last night?

Hi AfriMan

It sometimes becomes usable around between 11pm and midnight... but I cannot say really as I switch to a backup account as soon as the AH becomes dial-up internationally. While I get fluctuating latency and sub 800kbs on the Afrihost account, I get normal latency and a consistent 2.6Mbs on the backup 2Mbs account all night. Also, on my Afrihost account, speedtests to JHB have better results than Cape Town ones. Cape Town is just as useless as international during the evening.

This performance degradation has happened every night on on my Afrihost Business account, and only this account, since Monday.

Sounds consistent more or less with peak demand on the network that I saw last - seems to follow the same trend as most night.

Not sure about the JHB CPT thing - your routing looks correct on the trace you posted, so it could just be the speed of the servers themselves serving the tests.

It is not just limited to the speedtest servers ... it is international browsing, and actually anything to do with internets... this all becomes useless.
I go to the speedtest as a last resort before switching accounts.

Switch accounts, all works at full speed all night.

Switch to Afrihost account, back to 384k to 1Mbs fluctuating interwebz.

These are the exact symptoms experienced by me before the bottom fell out of the IPC earlier this year.

I have the same issues, almost every night, except occasionally I have better international speeds on the test than cpt to cpt. This has only started over the last few days. This really needs to be sorted out because paying for something and only getting less than a quarter your correct speed is robbery!

I'm pretty sure that you're right here, cos the symptoms are the same and the times correspond to the demand trends on the South IPC. I was just offering a possible explanation on the Cape Town/Joburg speedtest issue.

Aaah... indeed.

So it is a wait and struggle then until another upgrade or the balance of the previous is installed.

/sigh

I am on the normal Afrihost uncapped account (4Mbps) and, today, I am working at home (too cold to venture out) and have noticed that my shaping is 50% on download and 25% on P2P. What are you "business" uncapped guys shaping figures? I am wondering if I should upgrade to the business package in the future.

:crying:

So something is horribly wrong with my line today. Sent a support ticket around 5am. They responded to say they stabablized my line. This has resulted in me not disconnecting every few minutes, but has done nothing to restore my 8Mb/s business connection. It is several hours since I replied giving them feedback and complaining about these speed test results. Still no word.

Officially there is no shaping;

But sometimes... it sure just feels like there is...

Looks like a line/exchange issue possibly (or maybe even a router problem) as those pings are through the roof. What does a tracert look like (or use Zertop's tool)?

Zertop's "Is it my Line" Results
Basic Report:

Your average ping was 58ms
Your maximum ping was 112ms

Looking at your average ping, your line seems to be a bit dodgy :/ This may account for any slow speeds you may be experiencing. However, it could just be related to a high-latency home network (ie... Wi-Fi). If you feel the need, please post the results (at the end of the program) into the forum for advice

I'll echo that sigh! Really do hope that things go faster this time. But we've got MTN also pushing from their side as well :(

Tried to watch the last 15 minutes of rugby on SS.
What a horrible experience.

Buffering galore and when it did not buffer every few seconds there would be an automatic replay of scenes, which resulted that a move or commentary would be repeated at least once and then move on to the next scene only to be repeated again and then suddenly it would skip forward by a few seconds and you would miss what happened in the game.

Tried to watch with my 2Mbps business and with my 4 Mbps account.

Edit:
If I pause "Pause" my uncapped account today, will the account still be active till the end of the month?
Will my capped, Hosting and mobile accounts still be active or do they also go in "Pause" mode?
