10m here and can't stream youtube tonight...endless buffering. If I download something it runs at full speed

Running a download might perform differently, since it's not quite as latency dependant and you'll usually see a average download, not showing spikes or dips.

Were you downloading and running youtube at the same time?

Can't do f-all with streaming AGAIN tonight. So over this.

Time to move on, enough of this. But where does one move? All ISPs seem to be in a competition to deliver the worst service possible.

Any ideas and suggestions for unshaped unthrottled accounts, as was supposedly promised by an Afrihost Business account, would be appreciated.

It seems you can't have it all (unless you're paying top dollar) so you have to choose between 24/7 downloading and decent streaming. AH and other MTN resellers fall into the former while any IS reseller falls into the latter.

Sounds like Afrihost is pulling a Telkom. Throttling all accounts from 5-10 then blaming it on someone else or saying that they're "testing" for like 2 months. Really annoying

We're aiming to be as transparent and open with our clients about what is happening on our network as possible. This means that as information or plans change, we pass that on. There is no corporate, official line taken, we give you the information as we get it from management and our network engineers.

We're definitely not trying to blame anyone else while knowing that the problem is on our side. If we have an issue, we try to be as accountable and open as possible.

I don't believe it should be this way. We are looking very closely at improving streaming, which is a growing priority for many of our clients. We believe that we can improve US based streaming performance, and we're working very hard on this. Once this is in place, I think we can offer our clients the right balance to suit their individual needs.

Nope I was not downloading while streaming... the same videos are playing fine this morning. I seem to only have these problems after 8 at night and it's only streaming that is a problem - everything else is fine.

Can you please run the Network Test App (with no services running) so that I can take a peek?

There seems to be throughput issues AGAIN on AH.
Can access some sites, but not others.... this has been going on for far too long now. Not to mention the slowed speeds in the evening. This is supposed to be an unshaped, uncapped product... it is very disappointing to see how degraded this product has become over the last 5 months. Last night and this morning, most things I did online was slow and choppy - all on a 10MB line :wtf:

I am currently on my WebAfrica account, as I cannot access even this site with my AH Business account.

If the inability to access certain sites is due to some sort of shaping/prioritization issue then Afrihost can kiss my business goodbye. I'll give it a few days and see if this issue persists and if so, it's time to move on. Afrihost is on a dangerous path.

This type of selective restrictiveness is mighty convenient (for AH).... me thinks there is something shady going on here, no matter how many times AH denies that there is limiting/shaping on Business accounts. Also, not too sure how they can claim that the capped and business accounts have the same routing and that data is out of the same pool. When running trace routes from these 2 accounts in Cape Town, it is clear that they take different routes.... not only that, but it appears that they are even authenticated differently on the MTN network.

I think it's about time AH started owning up to the mess they have created by over-selling.... and pay the price of compensation to all those affected by their "don't worry, it will all be better after the upgrades... soooon.... " song-and-dance.

It's taken a good 6 months of waiting, only for it all to go to s***** FAST! and just keeps getting worse.

Rapidgator.net is also down. A non business ISP account confirm that it is up. I use it after hours for personal use but sometimes I need to use it during the day to transfer big CAD files. Not good that it is blocked, hopefully it will be rectified.

Works fine on WA account... :\

EDIT:
1) NOT working on AH Business Uncapped
2) NOT working on 1GB FREE account
3) NOT working on AH Home Uncapped

ie. NOT working on anything AH/MTN :(

Here's where the problem is (ONCE AGAIN, the same MTN hop):
tb-dca-2.za--qux-c.za.mtnbusiness.net [41.181.198.188]

Nothing is really giving me any indication of anything going wrong here. Maybe we need to run these tests after 8 when you have these issues?

There shouldn't be any issues on this, have you brought any of these issues up with our team previously to troubleshoot?

We don't restrict anything on the business accounts, and definitely don't block any sites from our end :)
