This MTN server
rb-dca-2.za--rb-cr-1.mtnns.net - 0 | 42 | 42 | 192 | 202 | 209 | 206 |
is adding a fair bit of crap to the network.

Also, it is cool to see that you go from London to Paris to Washington to New York on both of them. You can see South African traffic flies economy class all over the world :D

Speedtest is fine as well, this is as close you'll get on a 20Mb ADSL2+ connection
http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3668066691

MTN network is the issue, and whether Afrihost can change something there I don't know.

Thanks for the tests here.
Let's get this passed off to our team for some analysis - could you PM me your DSL username?

Afriguy,

I tested last night with Afrihost's 1gig free account and what was really bugging me is that I got WAY better performance on that account than what I was getting on my 4mb Business account...even though my exchange is congested my ping spikes in games were way less and way less intense, even streaming seemed more responsive. Tracert's revealed about the same results. I'm gonna check with Telskum about my exchange and try and get it sorted and do more testing on another account from other ISP's

Anyone with suggestions on free/minimal costing 1gig accounts please feel free to PM me :)

Not sure what you want Telkom to test, if your line works with another account then it's not your line.

Use the WebAfrica free account to test as well.

This is Happen every Night from 18:00 in the Weekend or sunday evening

Sounds like an exchange issue, traffic generally spikes up over these times when people are at home.
Drop me a PM with some test results and we can check this out.

There shouldn't be a difference between the accounts at all :( If you have any diagnostics I'd like to check them out.

Well I have reported exchange congestion in the past with them and they fixed it, my line is not the issue my exchange is, if you read my post properly you would know that

I'll do some testing to night on the accounts but I suspect that your techies would not see any issues....cant really post a full 40 minute clip of dota/D3 now can I :P, but I'll see what I can do and PM it over.

Yeah ofcourse. You have exchange congestion issues until you swopped accounts and then it worked better. That has to be it.

I wonder just how many have people have left AH in the past two to three months...
Maybe Afriman or Afriguy would chime in with some stats, I doubt they would though...

A lot of people however wouldn't move, and keep waiting for the promised changes. People attach way too much sentiment to their ISP, whoever provides the best service for what you need should be getting your money - not someone who who might get it right in the future.

That changes on a weekly/monthly basis, and you shouldn't be afraid to jump around.

Well said, I agree 100%...
I will leave if the problem is not resolved in the next two weeks...If I am paying for a service then that service should operate at 100% and not anything lower, there are a few exceptions, line capability and distance from exchange...

OK. Let me put in my 50cents.

I am on a new VDSL Exchange and my account is capable of 40Mbps, have had it and tested it.

Currently I am on 10Mbps Business Account with AH.

Downloads great but streaming non existent as I cant even get proper 720p on Hulu never mind 1080p and the constant pausing.

So I tested with WA and can tell you that as soon as I updated my router settings I got full 720p with Hulu and 1080p with Netflix and also no pausing whatsoever.

Now before Afriman/AfriGuy/AfriWhoever mentions the words "Exchange Congestion", I did not go and move my line to another "Congested" exchange. :)

Also comparing the trace routes to the same Hulu Server WA had quite a few hops less than to the same Hulu Server with AH, and not to mention lower overall round trip as well as at each hop.

Seems as though AH need to grab a WA account and compare for themselves. :)

I am sure they have one and done this, lol, :) and also know that they have issues but are not prepared to admit to them.

I am tired of this constant please run a trace route and we will look in to it.

Now I would not mind to do that but not when I was paying over 2k per month.

Since when did Hulu start streaming in 1080p? I thought all their streams were max 720p.
