Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

Still issues, still wafting for a call back from critical care (been waiting since last week for a call back), the service is getting worse by the day. What other ISP offers a business account at a similar price but with better streaming?

I don't see why I have to beg to get support to call me and at least try and determine the issuer. I believe they are aware their system in a mess, and try and delay things as long as possible. This is pathetic. I think its time to start resorting to social media to highlight this issue, so potential clients are away to stay far away.

Really sorry about the delays, I'll make some urgent queries with our guys today.

Hi Afriman, just an update

after friday my exchange is congested again....ill let you know about my stream issues after i get the congestion sorted.

thanks

Wasn't it working on your Business account previously?

Dude, the Business accounts behave erratic when it comes to streaming. No matter what the splurb is, there is a chalk and cheese difference between your capped accounts and business accounts when it comes to streaming.

I think we need to take a better look into this, because from the results we're seeing on our end it's all unshaped :)
Have you submitted anything to our team to look into? I'd be happy to follow up from there.

No, I've cancelled my 20Mb business account (last day end of Aug) and opened one with WebAfrica. It streams without issue. So does your capped account.

For R2500 a month I'm not going to wait around until a fix can be found, when streaming has been an issue for a very long time except at the AH offices. When you guys fix it, I'll come back.

Stop bragging about your 20mb line damn you!

Yes, I'm jelly :p.

HUGE difference to what you are getting at your end and what some of us are experiencing.....

Everything was 100% perfect with video streaming until just after the whole MTN buy-in/partnership/f*** up happened.
Then things started sucking badly with streaming.

You can test until you are blue in the face (or yellow as that is MTN's colour), but what we are experiencing is a run around with excuses and techno jargon and no clear answer as to why online streaming of videos sucks gorilla gonads.

Sorry to hear that you've left :(
While we try our best to have everything running smoothly, we sometimes need to run some tests with our clients to pinpoint an issue.

I don't think that's a fair or valid assumption to make. MTN's acquisition is still yet to be concluded, on top of which - a company acquiring 50% +1 share in Afrihost has no impact in the way the network is run. One is a technical aspect, the other a business one.

If there is a pending query you'd like followed up on, I'd gladly look into this. PM me a ref# and I'll get on the case.

Boggles my mind how loyal people are. Really thought this thread would of died down after users moved on to greener pastures.

What do you need me to run, and I will try to run it while I still have an active AH account.

Remember I am using an Amazon fireTV where the built in Hulu app uses a higher quality stream than the Hulu app on Android and on your PC. I cannot stream constant HD on a 20Mb AH Business, but even a 10Mb WA business managed fine which is why I swopped over.

In my opinion, yes it is.

Before this whole MTN thing, I used to be able to have torrents downloading in the background and watch a Youtube vid at 720p or 1080p with absolutley no issues with buffering, and my SO would be browsing via Wifi on her laptop.

A few days after the MTN thing happened, I was sitting with streaming issues.
I now have to sit and wait for a 10 minutes long Youtube vid to buffer for at least another 10 minutes before attempting to watch it on a 720p setting and that is without any other downloads running in the background or any other devices hooked up via Wifi.

Again, my opinion, but there IS a problem with streaming vids which many here can attest to.
Like whatwhat's problem, he had a 20MB AH connection and struggled with HD streaming.

I am also cancelling and moving to WA, thanks. Tired of this nonsense.

Let's get some traceroutes, speedstest, MTR's - whatever you can throw at us. The more the better :)

I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion :)
Just remember that we've been using the MTN IPC for over 2 years now, and the accession hasn't even gone through yet - so not sure how this would have an affect, at all, on a technical aspect of our network.

Hulu (the PC client) connects on port 1935, and when streaming it connected to this IP to get the cache data - 192.221.118.253

This MTN server
rb-dca-2.za--rb-cr-1.mtnns.net - 0 | 42 | 42 | 192 | 202 | 209 | 206 |
is adding a fair bit of crap to the network.

Also, it is cool to see that you go from London to Paris to Washington to New York on both of them. You can see South African traffic flies economy class all over the world :D

Speedtest is fine as well, this is as close you'll get on a 20Mb ADSL2+ connection
http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3668066691

MTN network is the issue, and whether Afrihost can change something there I don't know.
