Since when did Hulu start streaming in 1080p? I thought all their streams were max 720p.

Hulu has been offering 1080p content since 2013.

It also depends on what device you use, devices might get 720/1080p resolution but the bitrate will vary based on your device. My Amazon FireTV requires a high throughput for 1080p, and it's visible since it's much clearer than 720p content via NZB.

Not according to the internet, where can I find info on this?

Alternatively, Hulu Plus and Amazon subscribers are limited to a maximum of 720p for streaming content.

Quality

Netflix offers HD movies and can stream videos and shows in 1080p video. Hulu Plus streams in HD when available, with shows having a high-def. (720p) resolution.

Winner: Netflix’s ability to stream 1080p tops Hulu Plus’ 720p.

OK. Let me put in my 50cents.

I am on a new VDSL Exchange and my account is capable of 40Mbps, have had it and tested it.

Currently I am on 10Mbps Business Account with AH.

Downloads great but streaming non existent as I cant even get proper 720p on Hulu never mind 1080p and the constant pausing.

So I tested with WA and can tell you that as soon as I updated my router settings I got full 720p with Hulu and 1080p with Netflix and also no pausing whatsoever.

Now before Afriman/AfriGuy/AfriWhoever mentions the words "Exchange Congestion", I did not go and move my line to another "Congested" exchange. :)

Also comparing the trace routes to the same Hulu Server WA had quite a few hops less than to the same Hulu Server with AH, and not to mention lower overall round trip as well as at each hop.

Don't think I would mention this as exchange congestion :)
If you have a solid line but not seeing the performance I think it's definitely something worth looking into - we want our accounts to perform really well.

Not sure if this was done previously? I think we chatted a while back on this thread.

1080p is old news for Hulu, like I said they have a lot of varying profiles based on the device you use.

Thanks. Seems odd, cannot find any reference to 1080p being available for anything but a handful of Android smartphones. Seems a bit pointless having 1080p on a smartphone display when the maximum resolution on TVs and set-top boxes is only 720p.

Hulu's site doesn't even mention 1080p: http://www.hulu.com/help/articles/197541

Their site also references the iPhone 3GS, so I doubt it's maintained.

Just kidding. I don't know know why they dont say.

Bleg

This is unusually slow for my 8Mb Business Uncapped, I've done several speed tests now and they are all very similar, even local latency is high, ping is sitting at near 100 for me to Cape Town. Any reasons for this?

The latency is too high here :(
Can you paste up a traceroute too? I'll need to see where the additional latency is coming in from.

Has our team got back to you from any progress updates with MTN? Remember that we need to hear back from them.

Nope, no one has gotten back to me...
So am I just supposed to suffer with a horrible internet experience while you guys wait for updates...
Then come the end of the month, do I even get a discounted price based on the service I am getting, I think not...
There's only so long that I can wait for...

PS : Sorry, didn't mean to lash out at you, just extremely frustrated...........

Yeah I can get you're frustrated though :( Not really sure what's taking so long, really sorry dude :(
I've mailed our guys who are dealing with the query to see if there's any news for you.

AH Business account is now dead... will not authenticate. Had to swap to WA account to type this message.
WTF is going on? Speeds have been horrible the whole weekend - browsing painful, some sites timeout, connection keeps dropping (ISP, not line), and now completely dead.

...so much for Business data being out the same pool as capped.... 1GB free account DOES connect, but also suffers from high latency and timeouts.

Strange, shouldn't be any reason why the account won't authenticate. Sorry about that :(
Drop me a line via PM with your DSL username and I'll take a look at the logs under your account.
