Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

I understand your logic but as whatwhat pointed out it could happen with all ISP's, so what are we suppose to do...There isn't really any options left, you either stick it out with your current ISP or move elsewhere...if the grass isn't greener on the other side then we are stuffed...I take it your experience with AH thus far has been a pleasant one, good for you if it is...
LOL, I am not with Afrihost. Was with Telkom. Then moved to Crystal Web. Then moved to Axxess Business. Moving to Afrihost Business at the beginning of the new month to test. So I know all about moving.

Hope AH Business works out for you.

I have my fair share of issues with AH, but they have worked thru them, and for now, I am happy.

I also wont whinge on the price, because I have come to learn that get you what you pay for.

May I ask what the issues are? I am not concerned with streaming at all. Basically just want to download torrents and NZBs at near line speed 24/7.

That's exactly what you will get most of the time, downloading has hardly any issues

I just hope they don't pull an Axxess and change their terms and conditions at the start of the month, suddenly enforcing a stricter AUP than the normal home uncapped accounts have.

I can't really give much of that for the overall network. Especially in terms of MTN's management of the network, etc, I would get into a lot of hot water.

I'll give info where I can to help. Maybe if there is something specific that you need or are curious about?

MWEB openly gives Local/International round trip latencies. Not sure why MTN would hide it.

Unfortunately I will be leaving Afrihost at the end of the month. This is a great product except for the twitch streaming which is useless. I'm moving to a WebAfrica 240GB capped account.

I'll move back to Afrhost when\if they fix the horrid streaming issues. i'm running a WebAfrica trial account and my twitch is flying

I do find that speeds are a little slower with fixed IP becuase of the additional overhead for the LT2P connection/tunnel. Shouldn't really be to that level though. We'll need to doublecheck that you're getting normal throughput otherwise and then check if the L2TP server is working well or perhaps slower than it usually is :(

Hi Afriman
Tested with free webafrica account and then I get download of 8.5 and upload of 0.86. Zyxel router used. Even changed to different adsl line and same speed problem.

Interesting turn of events.
My main reason for moving to Web Africa was Netflix. Everything else I have been perfectly happy with Afrihost - but family moans at me with constant Netflix issues.
The main issues I had were constant buffering (using a Roku) and periodically the buffering would stall at 25% and that would be the end of that. Have to exit the movie/show and go back in. Even worse is Netflix would not store the last position so we have to manually seek. Urgh ...

Been running Web Africa since Sat. Had the odd buffering and only twice it stalled. Tonight however we have had it a lot. I have been coding while cycling through Not Geo shows. Buffering was quite frequent tonight and we had 3 stalls. Unusual considering WA was always performing better than AH when I switched back and forth.
So I emailed UnoTelly to see if they could do something to fix it. They responded in under a minute (how the hell is that for support!) and they suggested I use Seattle and California DNS servers. So I did.
Been nearly 2 hours now and not one single buffer or stall. Picture quality is fantastic.

Tomorrow evening I am switching back to my AH account and will see if this fantastic Netflix stream persists. Hold thumbs cause I really want to stick around.

Interesting and noted! Thanks for the share.

Sure - Line speed and latency issues, and support gave me some poor service. But I worked those thru with Afriguy and I am quite happy ATM.

Torrents are no problem, and I know my kids get 80 -90% of line speed, pretty much most of the time.

Running vpn on Afrihost 120 kb/s telkom 498 kb/s Afrihost is running out of speed at Cape Town this happening every evening

We are seeing some general throughput decrease, as per the notice on our website, but it's hard to say to what degree as it depends on the demand on any given evening. We're busy working with our team and MTN to improve the overall experience for users in the South.

Was this between 7 and 10pm?

I'm sorry to hear that you've decided to leave. We are continually working on improving the network. I know we're received varying reports of Twitch performance and it's definitely one of the services we're constantly testing to try to improve.

Which region are you in and around what time are you testing?

I think you might need to drop me a PM so we can troubleshoot further :(
