I suppose they can't really introduce a 6Mbps package seeing as the price jump from 4 to 10 is only R200 :)
 
This thread is very quiet, so either very few people use these accounts or they just work really well ;) Can you recommend it? I am currently on Openweb Gold uncapped 4Mb and switching could save me some cash.

I use maybe 200GB a month, and I game quite a lot.
 
Latency is perfect, but that depends on many factors outside afrihost control.
Exchange, dslam congestion, intl backhual problems, routing problems abroad on other networks.

My 6Mbps Afrihost business account is working great. Sometimes, like last night, torrent speeds are atrocious, but generally the account flies during office hours and isn't much worse after hours.

Your usage is pretty low. You'd have to be creeping past 700GB to worry about throttling, assuming you use the account consistently and that Afrihost even still have throttling policies.
 
Sounds good. I'm just worried about the account turning to crap after hours, which is when I need it to be stable the most. I don't want to settle for the non-business account as I want to make sure there is enough redundancy and I want the relaxed throttling just in case I need to do some heavy downloading.
 
I PMD Afriman this exact question last night. Waiting on an answer though. Would be interesting to find out.

Yesterday my Openweb account was shocking, on the weekend it was beautiful. And from 12 last night it was flying.

I want to know what the difference is going to be with this Business uncapped account. I also wont do much downloading, maybe 150 gigs per month BUT, when I want it to work I want it to work properly.
 
It works just fine, and guaranteed not shaped during Office hours.
I have never seen shaping After hours, BUT they can shape you afterhours if the need arise due to network issues.
There is no guarantee for after-hours, but like I say, never noticed any shaping even afterhours.

Guess the question would be what do they shape if they do shape after hours? I'm fine with P2P shaping, but shaping streaming or gaming would ruin the account for me.
 
That is where I differ. I do not want to be shaped on P2P.
The Gold account performs very will with steaming and gaming, for me anyway.

On non real-time protocols, p2p, torrents, nntp and so on.
Real-time don't get shaped, like browsing , video streaming or gaming
 
I just signed up so I will compare it this evening with Openweb. Lets see what happens I guess...
 
Well, been running for half an hour and full speed ahead. Seems this is my new home...
BUT, I don't want to speak to soon and jinx myself :D
