Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

Hi

I am looking at alternatives (currently a 4MB uncapped Mweb user), I have the 1GB free Afrihost account which I have used and the speed is impressive considering the speed i get on the same router with Mweb. My question, the business account is this limited to business or can it be used as a private account? My wife works from home and does a lot of YouTube viewing and downloads (she is a graphics designer). My current connection makes watching YouTube a real pain as any video will stream for a long time.

We usually download between 150-250GB, and this has never been an issue with Mweb, so if I change I don't want to be throttled or sent abuse letters.

The Business account anyone can subscribe too.
Business Uncapped is Un-metered and Un-Shaped during office hour, it might be shaped afterhours, but generally have never experienced that yet.

That said, I do around 100GB pm.
YouTube, streaming, general browsing and downloads are never shaped as it is considered "real-time" protocols

Afrihost doesn't prioritise the business accounts at all. You can even run a VPN with their blessing if you so desire. They throttle to 50% at around 65% utilisation per seven days, but that usage is much more than you would ever use.

The accounts can be used for anything you want.

I've just moved her from mweb. As for browsing, downloading and youtube it had been much better than Mweb. Can even watch youtube vids in HD without the video stopping every second to load, something that I couldn't do on mweb.
Only issue I've had so far is latency but that's going to come right soon.

He won't have International Latency issues, he is from Cape Town --- hahahaha:whistle:

I see on their web site the account is listed as "Unmetered" when the home account is listed as uncapped and then there are conditions to that?

No idea. I only know that my business account performs great.

My 4mb Business Account has been running fantastically; as I am possibly moving soon. I am pushing this even harder as I will need a store of entertainment until my new place has ADSL installed. We all know how long that can take.

Depends what area you move too, in Cape Town it can be pretty speedy anything from a few days to about 2 weeks.
That said, it depends if there are available ports at the exchange area you moving too.

I am not sure yet ;-( I am so upset by this just as I had sorted out my internet issues. Will only know for certain in the next two weeks where I am moving to. In the beginning I might only be able to afford a 2mb line (going to be tough going from 4mb to 2mb)

Will wait and see what happens,

Not lekker Lino, at least you will have internet :).

Why is there no 6Mbps Uncapped option for clients who don't want to go the Business route? :D

I guess they assume no one would be crazy enough to not go the business route?

What if someone wants 6Mbps speeds during non-business hours at a slightly cheaper price than the business packages? (Assuming the business packages will eventually become shaped during these hours) :)

The business packages cost the same as Mweb Premium. You can't really want Afrihost to go cheaper? The business packages don't guarantee being unshaped 24/7, but that's the intention. My Clientzone has never said anything other than 'no shaping applied'.
