Hmm...

Just signed up for a 10Mbps Business Uncapped.
- My line is synced at 10Mbps, and looking good.
- When my line is idle, no speed test report any speed above 4mbps (down) and 512Kb (up). Even though I am synced at 10016/1020
- As soon as I push 4mbps download, my latency jumps through the roof...

As soon as I stop my download, latency returns to normal.

The same behaviour is NOT evident on any other accounts (Telkom Internet/MWEB tested). Something strange is going on here, and at this stage I'm not too impressed...

My account is performing beautifully. Torrents coming in at 530KB/s and browsing is still snappy. I'm on 6Mbps.

I had the same problem last week, and from your trace route, that is exchange/dslam congestion by the looks of it.

Can't be.

Using my Afrihost account, if I *STOP* my downloads, latency returns to normal. Using ANY account at ANY other ISP (downloading or not), latency is normal.

My account is terrible today. Getting a third of what I should. NNTP not exceeding 80KB/s. Http downloads peaking at 370KB/s, when they should be over 600KB/s.

I'm on 6Mbps. Router shows sync at 6144 down, which a Telkom techie set it at after running tests at my home.

I don't know what's going on with my account the last 24 hours. Speeds slower than a 384 connection. Browsing is almost dead. Nothing will download faster than 15KB/s. I restarted the router several times today. The clientzone claims that no shaping is being applied to my account.

Here's a ping plot:

I was so hoping this would be the answer. Using account for last 2 days and sometimes it is fabulous and then again other times its as if someone has flicked the switch and it just stops working. It happened 5 minutes ago again, one moment downloading at 4.5 Mbps and the next minute 10 Kbps.

Read the other Afrihost post, the IPC in Cape Town died, telkom and mtn investigating.

Currently using my free Imaginet account. Afrihost totally unusable. Not cool...

Afriman said the CT IPC is up and running again, so I switched back onto my Afrihost account. Well...

Bull... my tracert tests confirm the IPC is in a tangle. For an internet based business this is unacceptable. If you ask me the move to MTN Business has been and is still a disaster. I'm going to try an OpenWeb trial account now. In my comms with Afrihost they seem to be beating around the bush... they know full well theres an issue!
