I have seen a couple of members asking about the Business Uncapped in the normal Afrihost thread.

As these are two different products I thought it best if we kept the discussions slightly separate to each other. Not to mention easier for members to find out more information.

I am currently running Afrihost Business Uncapped 4MB on a 4MB Telkom ADSL Line.
Located in Durbanville.

Been using the account since Sunday 5PM. Sunday was excellent, yesterday according to my traffic logs during the day was fine. However after 9PM last night and through the night it died to a roughly 1MB connection.

Mod_note: These threads are clearly designed/intended for customers to provide feedback to their respective ISPs - not for disgruntled former customers to vent, not for other ISPs to promote their services, etc - and, one hopes, for the relevant ISP to respond.

Oh wow !!! - I just signed up yesterday for a 2MB Business Account - waiting for my line to be DSL activated by Telkom, please don't tell me I'm going to regret my decision to go with Afrihost. I cant work on those sort of speeds......

:(

Don't worry only been a customer of theirs for about half a week now. Last night was the first time I have had issues. In the day time though it is still flying.

Yeah - I know i shouldn't judge before I start using it first, but most of my web activity is at night, so I'm a little concerned

By the end of the week I imagine a lot of us new users will have a better idea of what we in for.

Personally after hours I love to stream both audio and video and can't have it buffering every two seconds (example)

If most of your web activity is at night then you have probably gone for the wrong package. Afrihost business accounts prioritise traffic during the day.

True but after having researched it, after hours it should be better performance with the business account unless the network is under strain

I thought that was unshaped, unthrottled 24x7 ?

Afriman - care to comment ?

This is what the Afrihost website says:

"*Please Note: Business ADSL accounts are Guaranteed to be completely unshaped and unthrottled during business hours.
We do however reserve the right to, if absolutely needed, de-prioritize Business ADSL bandwidth outside of business hours."

By the looks of the numbers on this thread, it looks like it's "absolutely needed" fairly frequently. :D

So yes, if you're going to be using it mostly at night, it might not be the right product. But if you are going to schedule downloads.....

At least I have until the 24th to decide if I am going to keep the account :o

Download is now running at between 390KB/s and 410KB/s

Damn ! I knew I was overzealous with that submit button ! How is the normal Uncapped Account ? I almost went for Openweb Silver 2MB Uncapped Gamer thing, and I think this may be the way to go afterall... You get a free account on silver, plus the hotspot access that Afrihost does not have, and it is cheaper.

Afrihost has a nicer website though ! LOL !

The way I understand it is , after hours can be throttled if your day time usage is high and or they are experiencing network congestion. Fjorko perhaps openweb gold would suit your needs better.

Wonder if I can still cancel it..... just signed up yesterday and paid like R1 for the rest of March

You must cancel it before the 25th of March. Aka on the 24th of March at the latest

Downloads on HTTP still running at 390KB/s

If you have only paid R1 for it then there is no harm done if it doesnt work out. As Lino says, test it out until the 24th and see if it suits your needs.
