Afrihost Business Uncapped Feedback

I am not a fan of complaining but this is me complaining!

My line has gone to hell. Speedtest doesn't even finish the download test, and P2P is barely managing 10KB/s.

And to top it all off the Afrihost lines haven't reopened after their Christmas party.

UPDATE 1:

UPDATE 2:
My 1GB capped account doesn't even connect. The password and login have been copy pasted from the afrihost clientzone into my router and there is no connection.

UPDATE 3:
2 phone calls lasting 20 min each and no response. SMSed Help, no response after an hour. Did a support ticket... and got the standard "do these done things to prove that the fault isnt with us"

Sorry to hear you're having such a poor experience. It sounds like there could be another issue here, as this seems like you're not getting any connectivity at all.

Can you PM me? I'll check your line and account and let you know what I can find :(

Hi Afriman, are there any latency issues tonight? My girlfriend is having a hard time playing FarmVille. Got a few disconnects earlier tonight. Thanks.

There are no latency issues that I can see. Solid performance in both the North and the South.

Can you drop me a PM with a trace route?

Very impressed with my connection this weekend.

Streaming via the Apple TV has been an absolute pleasure.

Now get Telkom to upgrade the exchange and DSLAM's so I can get 10Mbps and we're golden.

So my ADSL returned to normal. The funniest thing is that there was absolutely no issues when it came to real-time traffic.

But I need some clarification. I might be a little daft in this regard but I pay for a 2048Kbps ADSL line. So it really confuses me when an Afrihost employee tells me:

Please note that you have a Up to 2048kbps Line Package and a Business DSL up to 2 Mbps account. The speed test that you have sent us show that the is absolutely nothing wrong with your line or account, you are getting the correct download and upload speed of the account. The actual speed on a 2048 kbps line is download speed 1.09 Mbps and upload speed 0.36 Mbps. You are currently getting a download speed of: 1.39 Mbps and upload speed of: 0.43 Mbps, so you actually getting an above speed of what you actually supposed to.

I looked at my screen in a bit of amazement. I pay for 2048Kbps (and yes I know its a best effort service) but according to this person I should only get 1090Kbps and the fact that I am getting 1390Kbps is more than what I should get.

Wait what?
No no no.
My [then] 2Mb line provided me with ~1.78Mbps down and 0.44Mbps up. That's about the average you should get (210KB/s down and 53KB/s up).

The Afrihost helpdesk is like the Telkom helpdesk, there is a lot of monkeys running around there that are terrible at their job.

They're working off the average speedtest results for a 2Mbps line on the Afrihost network.

I am on a 4Mbps line and find that I'm significantly above average. Could be due to the DSLAM and Exchange being only about 800 meters from my house.

That's rather rude.

Sorry, but if I'm paying you R1500 per month I expect a level of competency. Because people in SA are used to putting up with this crap, companies can get away with it.

If this was the USA that helpdesk guy would be fired right now.

Awesome to hear it, really glad that the Business account is working for you :)
