Howsit guys,

It has now been 3 days since I upgraded to the 4mb business account, but my line is still syncing at 2mb only..

Current Sync Rate: 2048kbps

Any idea how long this could take? Was supposed to be 2 days.

You should be on the new policy within 24 hours if the change was effective on the same day.

Drop me a PM and I'll check this out for you :(

Hi Afriman and/or AfriGuy

When someone on our home network has any sort of p2p client open, internet browsing comes to a stand still, even if the client is not downloading or uploading OR if its downloading at a very slow speed.

I own a Asus DSL-N10 Version B1 dsl router which should be sufficient.

also, all clients are connected via WiFi

Any help?

Hey Spartaniz

If I'm reading your post correctly, are you currently seeing this? Or would you like something like this setup?
Both answers should point to a QoS on the router - maybe P2P/ downloading is being prioritised on the routers level?

Remember also, P2P open many, many, MANY different connections simultaneously. Even if the P2P content is downloading at a low rate, the sheer number of connections pushing traffic can bring many routers to their knees. This is less of an issue with newer routers, but it does happen.

Experiencing really poor speeds tonight. Struggling to get over 1Mbps on a 4Mbps line at the moment.

Seems like contention has hit the business accounts hard now that mass exodus from home uncapped has taken place.

Trace routes are excellent. No hops over 20ms.

Something really needs to be done... Shaping has to be implemented on business accounts now as well.

Speeds have been piss poor since about 4 this afternoon and this is affecting real time. Stream quality is really poor.

Jys mal, nothing wrong from my end. Perhaps your area or exchange ?

Absolutely nothing wrong with the exchange. Traces are as perfect as they can be...

Averaging 1Mbps on a 4Mbps line is insane.

I am in Durbanville area and am experiencing the exact same thing. See my post on last page in afri uncapped feedback thread for my graphs. Flat rate 1mb speeds on a 4mb line. Zero congestion. 10ms pings on 2nd and 3rd hop. Sucks.

WTF is up at Afrihost every morning?

Also, my line has finally been upgraded, but...

And this is on my new 4mb business line?? WTF!! Think I need a refund as I am not getting anything better than my old 2mb line!!

I'm curious what happened to your line since last week? What has changed as everything seemed to going fine for you (after you migrated your line back to Telkom)? How long did you experience problems that you're now suggesting implementing shaping on Business accounts? If it was only 5 hours of poor performance then I have very little sympathy for you as you didn't have much sympathy for anyone suggesting there were capacity problems on the Afrihost network last week.

Morning traffic peaks very quickly and we have a tough call to make - either give the maximum bandwidth benefit to clients for as long as possible while shaping kicks in - or shape aggressively in anticipation of traffic peak every day.

We're trying to find a good temporary balance until our new capacity comes online - but sometimes we get it slightly wrong and we see latency spikes for 10-15 minutes as we hit absolute max on our capacity. We have quite a few guys monitoring every morning to second guess our automated systems for the very best result we can deliver while we're waiting for Telkom :(

Nothing has changed with my line... Well apart from moving it back to Telkom.

I doubt you will find a post of me being unsympathetic about anything but if you think that consistently getting speeds of 1.5Mbps on a business account is fine then so be it.

And before I hear about congestion etc etc...

Will this affect the download speeds I am seeing on speedtest? Cause my 2mb line always ran at 1.8mb in speedtest (which was right for the line), but 2.22mb on a 4mb line is just k@k!!
